    86 was a bit silly. I preferred 89

I do worry that covid will mutate into something else. Like a cross between the flu and the current covid, and become like a seasonal type illness. If it does mutate, hopefully the vaccines keep pace. It's a evolving battle and I hope it doesn't become more deadly.

There is encouraging research into a new type of vaccine against viruses. It targets an internal protein that many have and results are very good to date. Using this targetted protein to induce the production of antibodies and T lymphocytes, it could be a vaccine that will be almost universal if it pans out. The target protein is incapable of change therefore no variants will emerge. The protocol is even seen to be a viable agent against metastatic cancers.

In fairness, 83 and 86 I watched in German with English subtitles, whereas 89 I was forced to watch in dubbed over French.

Frickin hate dubbed over French, it sounds awful.

Why would anyone put themselves through watching a French dub?

I'm watching a mini series with Eric Cantona in the lead at the moment. Dérapages/Inhuman Resources on Netflix. Not bad at all.

Beggars can’t be choosers. Couldn’t find it anywhere else other than on Swiss tv.

What are the odds on a surprise Joe Biden appearance on the Late Late Show on St Patrick's Day? They bloody love that day over there

And maybe he can send on some of those AZ vaccines they have in storage that they can't use

He stole AZ from Trump, we'd be done for fencing.

Cars everywhere in my estate. Going to be another spike in cases after today.

Cars everywhere in my estate. Going to be another spike in cases after today.

I took the dog to the park earlier. It was deserted, compared to a normal Sunday I'd say there was about a fifth of the amount of people out normally

I was wondering what was happening

So many elderly people going to have their offspring in their house when they're close to getting the vaccination.

All for a commercialised holiday made up by the likes of Hallmark etc. The fact that there's different dates for it around the world says it all.

RIP Murray Walker. Right up there with Bill McLaren for recognisable commentary voices.

Can anyone recommend a particular period of (not Irish related) history to read about?

Can anyone recommend a particular period of (not Irish related) history to read about?

    Roman Empire?

Rubicon: The Triumph and Tragedy of the Roman Republic - Tom Hollander. Read that a few years back and it was quite good, got me kind of into it.

Working my way through the History of Rome podcasts at the moment. It's on Spotify, Apple, Deezer, Acast, etc. Quite good, though I'm not an expert.

Ah, I should have said non-Roman related history too. I've loved Roman history since discovering it as a child playing Age of Empires 1. :D

I googled the Rubicon book and I'm familar with the cover. Maybe I read it from a library years ago. I powered through a lot of the History of Rome podcasts and then stopped one day. I need to get back to them.

If you're ever in Bath in England, going to the Roman Baths there is a must. The engineering work is staggering and the thermal baths would still function if re-opened today. These people were genuises.

Try Mitla Pass by Leon Uris which covers events that occured during the 6 day war where somehow Israel managed to defend against Egypt, Syria and Jordan. Written as historical fiction so an easy but interesting read

Pay Dan Carlin for his Hardcore History podcast. I know its not a book, but he does an unreal job of setting scenes and talking you through any era.

Absolutely loved the History of Rome podcast. His follow-up, Revolutions, is also excellent.

Ploughing my way through the History of Byzantium podcast at the moment.

If you're looking for something light and fluffy, Bill Bryson has a great book called One Summer: America 1927, I couldn't put it down.

I've listened to a few of those years ago. They're great.
I'll happily pay for the archive.

I did not know that there were follow up podcasts!

Just ordered it, it was EUR 9 on Amazon.

Keep the book recommendations coming all, I'm due to read plenty. Oddly enough, I have fallen off reading since Covid!

There's an Irish History podcast that's free that starts right off at the Viking era and goes right through to today I think. I used to listen to it when I had a commute.

    It was decent!

    2 excellent history books

The emperor of all maladies: a biography of cancer (history of cancer)

And the band played on (history of the AIDS outbreak)

Not actually history but along those lines. I've been listening to Stephen Fry's Mythos on my commute and it's quite good. Greek mythology

The reason for Angel Di Maria's substitution yesterday for PSG is fairly frightening,
He was taken off after 30 mins as his house had been burgled and according to ESPN his family held hostage during the ordeal....his teammate Marquinhos had the same thing happen at his parents house during the game.
Seems to have been a well planned coordinated event

This is quite common but obviously the hostage thing has escalated it hugely. Happens here at funerals etc. Regular occurrence in the premier league too.

It actually happened to di Maria when he played for United in England...one of the reasons he wanted to leave.

What's up with all these countries stopping vaccinations? Is it some political brinksmanship with AZ or have the lunatics taken over the asylum?
