I see that Dublin Airport now has more radars. Does anyone know what each one does?

    * Radar on tall tower adjacent to the modern control towers - appears to be a Surface Movement Radar.
    * Radar on Transaer House (new Garda Station) - appears to be a rain radar for Met Éireann.
    * Dome in front of modern control towers approximately midway on runway 16/34.
    * Radar on tower at south perimeter.
    * Four radars on towers at north perimeter / Cooks Road.

Are all of the above run by IAA?

These are the details that I can determine: http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/TuG - if nothing shows, click 'Run'. May not work on certain devices. Any other information and corrections welcome.

    Separate queries:

I have been able to map radars at Malin Head, Dooncarton, Shannon (2), Woodcock Hill (2), Mount Gabriel, Cork and Dublin. Where are there other radars? Surely there is one in the southeast? http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/TuJ - if nothing shows, click 'Run'. May not work on certain devices. Any other information and corrections welcome.

I've heard of a radar / navigation aid somewhere around Ashbourne / Dunshaughlin. Where / what is this? Is it the beacon nearer Rolestown?

Has the new Dublin Airport Garda Station moved to Transaer House?

What is the old Ryanair head office now used for?

In general, I believe the thin ones like you’d see on a ship are all surface movement radars. The ones curved like a satellite dish are primary (old school, shoot out a pulse of radio waves and listen for signal reflected off objects). On Google Street View (which covers the runways and taxiways as well if you weren’t aware), you’ll see the two primaries North of the airfield have a flat “grid” above the dish, which is a secondary radar (communicates with aircraft transponders). There’s also one tower there with only secondary on it, and one I believe to be surface movement.

There are primary and secondary radars at Cork and Shannon airfields, the rest are secondary only. There’s only one on Woodcock Hill and 2 on Mount Gabriel. I believe the dome on the roof of the Shannon terminal is also a Met radar, they certainly have one at Shannon. You have all the sites listed there though.

    Details at http://iaip.iaa.ie/iaip/Published%20Files/AIP%20Files/ENR/EI_ENR_1_6_EN.pdf

Your first map has a building between the west apron and Runway 16/34 marked as a Met radar which I think is incorrect. There’s certainly no radar visible there on Street View.

    There’s a list of navaids with lat/longs at http://iaip.iaa.ie/iaip/Published%20Files/AIP%20Files/ENR/EI_ENR_4_1_EN.pdf

I would imagine Met run their own radars, the rest are run by the IAA. There’s what looks like a radome visible from the N7 at Casement. Presumably the Air Corps run their own.
