Was going to cut it this evening but neighbours out having drinks, so will leave it till tomorrow.

Would it annoy you if neighbours cut grass at say 10am?

Yes. 10am is too early imo. People could’ve been out the night before or maybe worked a late shift. And some people are night owls and could be working away late at home. After 11 I think most people understand their lifestyle is to blame. 10 am they might blame the person with the lawnmower.

Sure grass would be damp til 11am at least.

    Mine isn't.
Garden is in full sun from about 6:30am, bone dry by 8,:30 max.

I usually cut it whenever it suits me, I'd certainly have no issue cutting it at 9sm, in often cut it around 7pm though.

My neighbors don't give a fiddlers about their dogs barking at random times, revving the arse of their bike when arriving home in the evening or having music etc going during the day.

If 30 mins if mower a couple of times a week in summer bothers you then you need help.
I also back into a golf course so there are mowers going 7 days a week!

10am because someone had s hangover? Go away and ****e outta that.
I've been up since 6am with s kid, no one stops making noise at 9pm because I've gone to bed!

Was thinking to get someone to do the main cut and the weeding once a month, then I can just run the mower over it every 2nd week or so. I usually let it go for about a month and its a fcker of a job.

Cut it every week and it will be an easy job, it will look awful if left for 2 weeks. Weeding is an ongoing job this time of year too.

Maybe look at getting someone in for an hour a week for weeding etc and cut the grass yourself?

Pour a bottle of vodka on your lawn at night and next morning it comes up half cut.

When I had my own place, I used to cut the front lawn about once a week or so during the summer, around 4/5pm because ginger. I used to cut the neighbours front lawn too, because she was sound and had banging tits. But the back lawn, well, I used to call it laziness but I see now I can claim I was helping the bees. I'd let it go long enough that I could use my samurai swords to have a bit of a work out and chop down as much as I could (pretty sure the grass got to about 3ft high at one stage. May not have been grass anymore at that stage.

I always said if I had my own house I wouldn’t have a single tree, hedge, flower, or blade of grass on the premises. But I think if I was actually just out of a housing estate where I have to make small talk or get screwed over by the neighbours every time I go out to do it then I wouldn’t actually mind a bit of gardening.

Neighbour cutting their grass this morning in Blackrock at 9.30 a.m. Might be the same bollix that has the yelping dog.

For a fee I will settle the matter of the grass but I do like dogs.

That would be trees with overhanging branches into another property. They have caused many a bitter feud between neighbours.

Get to know their neighbours. If they work shift you should be able to figure out a good time to do it. It's a bit of grass, it isn't going anywhere.

If they were decent neighbours they would change their hours to suit your grass cutting time

The grass is currently waist height round my back garden. Not down to laziness mind, I'm doing it for the bees and the environment.

Its more just the decent thing to do, cutting the grass is a boring job anyway.

Can our army of scratcher recipients not come over and cut the grass while us workers are out paying their way?

Just because you aren't let out on the sauce yourself is not a reason to throw all decency out the window. What would you do if living in the countries that make it illegal to cut grass early on weekend mornings?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,208 ✭✭✭LuasSimon

On a different note , in my younger days circa 17/18 i did a bit of lawncutting but one house in particular had a pretty middlecclass couple, the husband worked in a bank and she was a housewife. mid 40s at the time . When i was finished cutting the lawn the first day i was there the wife informed me she wouldnt be paying me cash !!....i had one blissful summer but the same lady had about three of us cutting the lawn different days for a finish up...the grass couldnt grow quick enough for local young lads!....id swear shes still at it with local young lads

Ok, now stick with me on this as it might get pretty technical....
If if was illegal to cut grass before 10am, then I wouldnt cut the grass before 10am.

The point being its obviously seen a quite an unreasonable thing to do when many countries outlaw it. Nothing worse than militant morning people thinking they are above everyone because they get up early.

Not half as much as it will annoy me!

Booked a garden guy to give it a good clean and tidy and some landscaping!

Will see about getting him to call monthly to at least keep it in check. It's a nice space that I dont make the most of.

By that logic its clearly *not* seen as an unreasonable thing to do in Ireland since we *dont* have a law about it.

What countries have this law btw?
