The Mavericks - Dance the night away. Just despicable carry on.

Jedward - Bad behaviour. Anyone who besmirches the name of Vennu Malesh is evil incarnate. A maestro.

Ronan Keating - Friends in time. Ronan Keating is a pisswallet.

Mike and the Mechanics - Living Years. I know the full dance to the Ketchup soing and will never vote it as worst anything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,422 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

    Bagatelle - Somewhere in Europe
    Jedward - Bad behaviour
Ronan Keating - Friends in time
Las Ketchup - The Ketchup Song

That matm song is decent, rest are pretty bad.

Las Ketchup - The Ketchup Song because M&tM are great.

(There's a theme with my voting here. Just trying to stop the decent songs from making it through)

The Mavericks - Dance the night away Vs Bagatelle - Somewhere in Europe - lyrical cringe

Billy Ray Cyrus - Achy Breaky Heart Vs Ronan Keating - Friends in time - Billy Ray Cyrus isn't good but at least he's not Ronan Keating

Mike and the Mechanics - Living Years Vs Las Ketchup - The Ketchup Song - I hate ketchup and this song doesn't help

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,475 ✭✭✭Niska

The Mavericks - Dance the night away Vs Bagatelle - Somewhere in Europe - bland rather than awful
Vennu Mallesh - Its my live what ever I Vs Jedward - Bad behaviour - pity I can't choose both
Billy Ray Cyrus - Achy Breaky Heart Vs Ronan Keating - Friends in time -
Mike and the Mechanics - Living Years Vs Las Ketchup - The Ketchup Song -

Bagatelle - Somewhere in Europe ; Dance The Night Away is fairly decent to be fair

Jedward - Bad Behaviour ; because even though I hated him at first a couple of minutes into his song I realised Vennu Mallesh is a bad ass, and Jedward are not bad-asses, they're just bad

Ronan Keating - Friends In Time ; its just boring, Achy Breaky Heart isn't great, but at least it's got a bit of life to it

Mike and the Mechanics - The Living Years ; I find The Ketchup Song to be really catchy and wouldn't class it as bad. The Living Years is grand, I wouldn't say its bad, but it's just a bit meh, and their best song was Over My Shoulder

The Chats - Smoko [2] Vs Mark Gormley - Without You [3]

The Bogan qualities of The Chats saves them here.

Jan Terri - Baby Blues[3] Vs Black Lace - Hokey Cokey [3]

The Hokey Cokey kinda makes my nanny smile and that's what it's all about.

    Round 1!!!

First song to reach 5 votes advances

No need for a reason at this point, though people are always welcome to give theirs :D

Reminder :: You are voting for the WORST song in each one of these matches

    Round 1/Match 21

Counting Crows - Big Yellow Taxi

    Vs

    Mundy - Galway Girl

    Round 1/Match 22

    James Blunt - You're Beautiful

    Vs

    Zlad! - Elektronik Supersonik

I didn't like it when I first heard it and then it was overplayed and I started really disliking it
The epitome of bland, tuneless tepidity, an inexplicable hit.

    Round 1/Match 23
    Pras - Ghetto Superstar

    Vs

Ronan Keating - Fairytale of New York

I blame Ronan's Friends, family and management for letting him this. The Dacia version of a Bugatti Veyron.

    Round 1/Match 24

Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On

    Vs

Norah Jones - Don't Know Why

I didn't like her voice at all and never got the hype with her music either

Counting Crows - Big Yellow Taxi Vs Mundy - Galway Girl
James Blunt - You're Beautiful Vs Zlad! - Elektronik Supersonik
Pras - Ghetto Superstar Vs Ronan Keating - Fairytale of New York
Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On Vs Norah Jones - Don't Know Why

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Mundy - Galway Girl ; overplayed so much that I grew to hate it, even though I didn't mind it at first

Zlad! - Elektronik Supersonik ; James Blunt gets too hard a time, he has some good songs. That said, don't mind Elektronik Supersonik either, but its worst of the two

Ronan Keating - Fairytale of New York ; dreadful cover. Both are awful, but if I had to I'd rather listen to Ghetto Superstar

Norah Jones - Don't Know Why ; both songs are fine, but Heart Will Go On is definitely the better of the two

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,422 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

    Mundy - Galway Girl
    Zlad! - Elektronik Supersonik
Ronan Keating - Fairytale of New York
Norah Jones - Don't Know Why

The other songs are fairly decent.

Round 1/Match 21 Was going to vote for Mundy but to see a crowd of people in public, enjoying each others company, how could I. Abstaining.
    Round 1/Match 22 Zlad! - Elektronik Supersonik
Round 1/Match 23 Ronan Keating - Fairytale of New York
Round 1/Match 24 Abstaining, neither of these songs should be in this competition

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Mundy - Galway Girl. Reminds me of some knob spilling Bulmers on my shoes somewhere.

Zlad! - Elektronik Supersonik. Blunt is funny on Twitter.

Ronan Keating - Fairytale of New York. Turdburglar ruining everything.

Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On. Norah Jones song is good IMO.

The Mavericks - Dance the night away Vs Bagatelle - Somewhere in Europe - There are Declan Nerney types singing this every Saturday night at country music jiving nights I'm sure
Vennu Mallesh - Its my live what ever I Vs Jedward - Bad behaviour
Billy Ray Cyrus - Achy Breaky Heart Vs Ronan Keating - Friends in time This atrocity by RK makes Billy Ray Cyrus look like a modern classic
Mike and the Mechanics - Living Years Vs Las Ketchup - The Ketchup Song Just cannot stand this song.

Celine Dion's music brings me out in a rage. Also didn't known RK covered Fairytale? Did he think he could do a better job than the original????

Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On Vs Norah Jones - Don't Know Why - I don't think MHWGO is the worst song ever but it is overwrought and was horribly overplayed at the time. Don't have any particularly strong opinion on the Norah Jones one, it's not a song I regularly listen to but have no objection to hearing it playing while I'm in a café or wine bar or somewhere similarly chilled (back when cafés, wine bars and similar institutions were a thing. :( )

Incidentally I nominated Big Yellow Taxi *shudder* but can't argue with Galway Girl going through; the Ed Sheeran abomination of the same name would also have been a worthy "winner".

    The Beatles - Revolution 9

    Round 1/Match 27

    Jan Terri - Losing You

    Vs

    Aerosmith - I don't want to miss a thing

Always hated this because of Steve Tylers extravagant expressions but also because of the faux American Hero Worship which is going on in it.

    Round 1/Match 28

Tones and I - Dance Monkey

    Vs

    Eduard Khil - Trololo Song

Drugs. Lots of drugs. (And Soviet Era oppression induced senility)

Round 1/Match 28 Eduard Khil - Trololo Song Whether this was intended as a joke or not, this is a terrible song.

Willow Smith - Whip My Hair ; woeful stuff

Rams - Barking ; can't stand it. Make it stop!

Jan Terri - Losing You ; I like Don't Want To Miss a Thing, got free drinks all night in a Karaoke Bar in Philadelphia after dedicating it to the girl behind the bar

Tones and I - Dance Monkey ; I can see the appealing side to Trololo Song

Tones and I - Dance Monkey Vs Eduard Khil - Trololo Song - Dance Monkey would actually be a decent song if it was by someone who could actually sing, but her voice completely ruins it. Trololo at least has a pleasant vocal.

Celine Dion My Heart Will Go On
It's not a bad song at all but neither is that Norah Jones track.

    I was thinking about this.
Some people need to have a good long look at themselves and consider what is it that brought them to a point where they thought they could nominate perfectly reasonable songs in to this competition. Some of the nominations here make me want to find out how made them and make a welfare call to the Gardai on their behalf.

Is it because it reminded you of an ex? Used your father sing it like he was on stage at Live Aid?
Did you sing it yourself in a school talent competition and get laughed off stage by the cool kids and they started bullying you and you ended up having to move schools and the new one was far away and the bus driver was slightly racist and you felt uncomfortable so you started to miss days and ended up having a poor leaving cert and not getting your preferred place in college and so you picked an arts degree in a small town IT which you waded through with no enthusiasm until you finally graduated with a pass degree and close to zero job opportunities and so you moved home telling yourself it was only until you went to Australia with your partner but then they went and dumped you and started going out with your former best friend and your parents kept at you about the useless degree you did even though they told you to do it and so you moved out and started working at a local bar telling people you genuinely wanted a career in hospitality but the close proximity to alcohol and sense of lack of direction in your life led you to start to use drink to help take the edge off and eventually that was up to a naggin of vodka per shift and when they found out you were stealing drink they fired you and as you were walking out the door, the Sunday night DJ was playing music at 110dB to an empty bar and the song that was on was the same song that you sang all those years ago and you just wanted to f*ckin cry. And kill the DJ.

Is that it? Is that what happened? Because if it is, F those assh*les who laughed at you but you need to let it go and admit that that song is ok, it's still widely popular because it's a good song, and does not belong in a thread about the worst song of all time.

Anyone who nominated Don McLeans American Pie, Celine Dion's MHWGO, Norah Jone, The Monkees, Crowded House, Cher etc, please feel free to answer this question. It will help you.

Of course, the songs I nominated truly deserve to be here. That's just fact.

I nominated Celine Dion because I think it’s a **** song. I’ve always thought that and I’m entitled to my opinion. It was one of the first songs that came to mind when the nominations opened. If you think it’s a good song, then you can vote the other way. That’s one of the advantages of democracy.

    Cher - Believe

The song, recorded and released in 1998, peaked at number one in 21 countries worldwide

Best songs ever? No. Worst songs Ever? No. Not even close.
