Australia and New Zealand have done a fantastic job. Yes they are more geographically isolated but there's big cities and their measures prevented the spread.

HSE operations report for today just released.

A mixed bag really but overall still quite steady.

As of 8pm 233 confirmed cases in acute hospitals, up from 218 yesterday, but still a major drop from Monday when it was at 288.

As of 18:30 48 confirmed cases in ICU, which is the same as yesterday. Was expecting this to be higher following the CMOs comments earlier.

Only 5 cases confirmed in Irish hospitals today.

Martin was trying to make political hay today same as his comments on the number of people waiting on tests.

Yeah that is good news indeed. Numbers in Dublin hospitals still trending downwards, mater with the most at 44 but that was routinely 100+ not too long ago.

Likewise 13 cases in vincents, with Beaumont seriously coming down to 16, it was another badly hit hosptial in terms of constantly high numbers

I dont think so. There are still only 3800 deaths in California which is relatively low considering the amount of cases and in comparison to new york. Whatever strain the west coast got seems to be mild in comparison to the east coast. Also, the population of California is almost 40 million to put those numbers in perspective

Seems like the increase in numbers is because of more testing and not because of uncontrolled outbreaks spreading . Same thing is happening in my state yet deaths and hospitalisations are dropping for weeks now, despite reopening. As far as I've seen its nowhere near to being overwhelmed like new york was and there are no indications that it will be.

California is the fourth state to surpass 100,000 confirmed cases. New York leads with more than 300,000 cases. California has recorded more than 3,800 deaths, far fewer than New York, which has 29,000; New Jersey, which has 11,000; or Massachusetts, which has recorded 6,400.

The rising cases don’t necessarily mean outbreaks are spreading. California has dramatically increased testing, which some officials credit for the rise in confirmed cases.

With cases on track to nearly double in May, the governor has pointed to steady numbers in hospitalizations and other metrics as proof that the state is bending the curve. But he cautioned that reopening doesn’t mean the threat of the virus is gone.

More normal perhaps, close to normal even. But there will be no large events or gatherings in august, don't see how you could call life completely normal when any large festivals gatherings and sports events are still being cancelled.

For Wednesday, so far, 1,535 confirmed new deaths in the US. Total 102,107.

New York is a bit of a bright spot with 102 deaths which is well down on the peak there. The rest are as you were by and large.
