the state should run fast food joints!
Ok comrade, sure we're paying the wages of the staff at the moment anyway!

Jesus the amount of people I know of now who were working 10 hours or so a week and are getting the covid payment of €350 now is staggering.

I know one family where the mother and 3 adult children werent working at all and are somehow getting it now too. Im told they all said they were working a few hours a week in a relatives Pub / B&B.

Wait, so if I were doing one day a week in a shop then I'd get the 350 and if my friend was doing a full week, they'd also get 350? Madness

And what about all the very wealthy self employed people who got this payment, and there are many.I would rater see a young fellow/girl,getting this payment by far, even if only doing a few hours a week, its still not a fortune, whereas ,the wealthy self employed still are wealthy ,if you know what i mean.?

Delighted to hear Paschal Donoghue confirm that PS payrise will be paid in a few months.

A burger chips and drink would cost forty euro and be served to you, four hours later....

And the 40 euro you pay would have to cover the next 5 families bill too

For me it's more about moving out of this. Why would you want to go back to work when you're getting paid more to stay at home? If you're earning more normally, then you're gonna want to get back to it.

I honestly had no idea it was a blanket payment across the board.

Yeah another total scumbag takes money out of the pathetic wages he pays for uniform and meals as well but some on here will tell you he's a 'wealth creator' or an 'entrepreneur' when in reality he's just an exploiter of others.

Going on about how they get €1.20 or whatever the price taken out of their wages for a "meal" and saying it's worth €10

Im sure not everyone wants to be eating that fast food, I'm sure others prefer to bring in their own healthy meals. Should at least have the option.
Sounded like the actual cost to make the €10 meal is €1.20

He does have a point about the payments, it's madness people go from earning €80-100 working to €350 not working in the space of a few days.

Good proper order that the pay restoration as agreed should be paid

In fairness to him, he was working behind the counter in the Talbot St branch on the very last day before every place shut down. Made my taco fries himself and very tasty they were too.

It's pure gouging to charge for the 'meal' and the uniform especially from a company that made 28 million profit last year this €350 has shown how employers have been getting away with paying disgracefully low wages and now Fat Pat's bleating has shone a light on the disgraceful practices at his company even McDonalds give the meal free!

I am in the UK and self employed. I get nothing. The income support for the self employed is for people earning up to £50k a year. You get 80% of your average monthly income over the last 3 tax years up to a max of £2500.00 per month. Now, we did get a business grant of £10k once we submitted the relevant paperwork. We do have 7 employees.

We took on a new member of staff 1 March and we get no top up for her as she was taken on too late.

Employers (of which I am one) can elect to top up the employees wages to 100% i.e. make up the 20% while they are furloughed.

I also get screwed in that I am 100% taxed on the children's allowance we receive.

Are you taxed on children's allowance in Ireland? i.e. the amount received is taken as 'income' and HMRC take 100% back off me as I earn over £60k. Not taxed if you earn under £50k and I think it is 50% between £50k and £60K.

And brilliantly you are not allowed to cancel the children's allowance payments.

Its not fraud though. Its allowed. Thats the problem.

Your not taxed on children’s allowance in ireland , you can actually have as many children as you want and the tax payer sorts you out , an Irish ethnic group specialise in this and many other uncapped welfare payouts that those in the UK or other country’s can only dream of .

If they are only working one day they are likely on some other welfare payment, if they have been overpayed on either payment it will be clawed back next year
The hysterical rantings on here are just hot air.

Why would that be? Thousands are already gone back to work. By the time of full resumption of work and life, the number still claiming will be greatly reduced.

Well admittedly I am not as familiar with ireland right now as I dont live there but I have seen reports of massive unemployment fraud in the UK and US, so I imagine Ireland also. As I stated in another thread I recieved an unsolicited government cheque here in the US, if we all cash those cheques are we not all technically committing fraud, if we are fully employed?

Not really, ours will be treated as part of taxable income. Once this ends people will return to work or go on benefits.

Apologies, true the builder/publican example is not fraid but the other example sounds like 4 people who did My lose a job are claiming that they did.

I doubt they will let any cases of fraud slide. I know of cases where DEASP can go back over ten years to claw back money. It will be relatively easy to match prsi records prior to covid to claims made afterwards

Yep and it will also be Revenue doing the trawling.

It might be an idea to check that someone hasn’t stolen your identity!

I don’t believe that welfare issue cheques. It’s either paid into your bank or has to be collected from a nominated post office.

Self employed people can only claim if they have ceased trading during the period. Many will have kept working albeit at a reduced pace and so get nothing.

I'd also make the point that the "wealthy" self employed are likely to have paid into the system via their taxes for years, so claiming a welfare payment due to adverse economic circumstances is wholly justified based on their previous earnings.
