Barcelona is a lovely spot but parts of it definitely rough.
I know a girl I used to work with who was mugged there twice in a week!

Infamous for mugging and con tricks. As my mother & I were crossing the Rambla, I saw a gypsy coming towards her with a flower and shouted at her. The thief’s hand was already down her bra where my mother kept her cash, only Mum copped on at same moment and startled her. The thief and an accomplice then started laughing as they made their way off, without managing to steal anything, I’ve been many places, none to the level of muggers as is Barcelona. I believe Rio de Janeiro is even worse.
