Maybe they are but if UV light kills the virus it certainly should be recommended for everyone. Vitiman D deficiency is also a big problem here in Ireland.

It's being used as a replacement for chemical sterilisation of rooms because it's faster and more effective.

Interesting to see today the people themselves have taken the initiative and are out and about. Social distancing is just about being maintained. This is what will continue to happen, along with the black market because the government are so far behind with their roadmap.
If they had given the people something substantial, 10-20km limit, and re opening of garden centres, etc., from last weekend there could have been more compliance and goodwill. That was the bare minimum that should’ve been given. Expect plenty more disregarding of the lockdown for the coming week.

Another interesting piece of information is they’re using UV light in some Dublin hospitals now as a treatment - maybe President Trump was onto something after all! Shouldn’t everyone be advised to get out and get some actual UV light from the sun as much as possible if this is the case.
Oh and after reading Spain’s phase 1 of lifting restrictions I just had to sigh - they’ll be going to concerts, theatres, coffee shops and restaurants using social distancing, etc. Maybe someone in charge should look at our European neighbours and change our ‘roadmap?’

Maybe you should run for government, you seem to have all the answers ...

219 new cases today. 18 deaths.

Both been reducing for weeks now? 2 weeks?

Lets hope Tony H gives green light for phase 1 opening.

Imagine the scenes if he doesnt.

Poll on lifting restrictions early: 61% yes, 34% no.

We have FF coming to our help. somewhat

"But Fianna Fáil’s business spokesperson Robert Troy has this morning called for the government to look at whether it can be done under strict guidelines."

    https://www.thejournal.ie/poll-hairdressers-20-july-5094884-May2020/

Below makes it sound very reasonable to lift restrictions earlier than 20th of July.

"Countries like Denmark, France, Spain and Germany are opening hairdressers under strict rules this month, which includes: wearing face masks, people staying 1 metre apart when hair isn’t being cut, and hairdressers operating at 30% capacity"

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,039 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

It's hard to think that people in Denmark etc could be cutting hair for three months before we open up at all

Its is borderline false imprisonment what is being proposed for the Summer in Ireland

With all the trends moving in the right direction, there's a case to be made to start phase 1 opening a little earlier, say next Friday 15th instead of 18th, and also to bring in some phase 2 elements, like street level shops, libraries and increase the travel distance to 20Km.
The re-opening "Roadmap" is a guide only, and every additional day of restrictions is an extra day of harm to peoples wellbeing and the economy, if not fully justified.

I agree with you fully. However the course of events recently, and especially yesterday, suggest an extension could be more likely by Tony and Co

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,039 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

They won't get away with another extension I'd say

It will be 8 weeks with the only relaxations being cocooners can get out for exercise which they could have done anyway and 2km exercise being expanded to 5km

Well my guess we could see hundreds of construction workers making their way to the government buildings to show their displeasure. A bit like what farmers did couple of months back.

I think weekly construction pay is like 800 euros? A bit more? Missing out on 400-500 euros per week would hurt a lot.

No. It's not anywhere near it.

Phase 1 will start 18th May. Tony will get the 2 fingers if he thinks another extension will come in before then.

Watching UK tv earlier and they have adapted kit for a sleep disorder which in a lot of instances avoids ventilators.

The tech. will overtake the disease soon.

Tony and the boys will be dusting down iron lungs instead of looking around them.

It's not like that either. Both are ridiculous comments. You're capable of better.

He said yesterday he is confident we are where we need to be to ease restrictions on the 18th

Do none of you watch the daily briefing?

It was ridiculous that the sunscreen buzz took off worldwide. Putting a chemical laden cream on your biggest organ and expecting it to end well was maybe a bit of an over reaction. Dont get burnt would have been smarter. The sun is probably the greatest miracle cure in the world when used sensibly. (ie dont get burnt and use in moderation)

I watched his briefing last April where he said he wanted RO below 1 and ICU not overwhelmed. That was lies

    .
Why would we see that when they're back on the 18th anyway?

I think the only ones who are going to throw a spanner in the works are actually the Unions if their H&S concerns aren't addressed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,031 ✭✭✭✭niallo27

Phase 1 is nothing anyway, it should have happened on the 5th. We will still be able to go no where socially only be able to buy a tin of paint. Construction will be back but a lot of them are already.

I guess this is the thread of choice for the hardcore anti "lockdown" brigade.

Amazing how much time some of them have to spout their views on here constantly.

Should they not be out in this weather enjoying the freedom they think they are being denied?

Maybe they are just a sad bunch of internet moaners after all :p

No we are obeying the government directive of limited movement for the health benefit of the nation.

It's time to get the country back in order before the damage is irreversible, those who wish to
netflix and do nothing for the summer are free to do so without covid payment. We now know who needs to be protected for Covid19 and that needs to be done.
