Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Switching Providers, FTTC to FTTH

We are renting a house at the moment. Our 12 month Sky contract is up so now we are being charged €55 a month for FTTC broadband. We decided to switch to Vodafone 150 Mbps which works out at about €32.50 a month on a 12 month contract. I thought it would be a simple job, plug out Sky modem, plug in Vodafone modem, some config and away we go.

Installer from KN called during the week and looks like it's a bigger job than first thought. Looks like we can't get FTTC anymore and they need to install fibre through a duct. Installer couldn't find where it entered the house and has to call back. I've since found the duct and cleared it out, it was buried under tiles and grout in the hallway. KN should be back again during the week.

Is this common practice now? Are some providers no longer providing FTTC and switching customers over the FTTH?

It's not SIRO so how do Vodafone make any money? Are they losing out in the first year if Openeir are charging them €170 for install and then €23.50 per month.

At 150 it must be FTTH which is a very different product to FTTC. You can order FTTC with Vodafone still.

Yep ,seems you have ordered wrong product, FTTC only goes up to 100 Mbps.

Thank your lucky stars, you're about to get the best broadband capacity in the country. If you want to pay for it the speeds go up to 1000Mb on that service. It only has to be installed this time and you can switch to other providers without having to go through the install again.

There didn't appear to be a FTTC option on the Vodafone website when we put in the Eircode. We then had to sign up through their webchat. They didn't mention changing the line over to fibre. The first we knew about it being fibre was when the KN man showed up at the door.

I know fibre is much superior, it's just that we are renting at the moment and I didn't really want to go pulling up tiles and concrete in the hall. It's done now, so just waiting on KN man to come back this week to do the install.
