Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well all your niche/obscure ones will be voted it out in the first few matches.

I wouldn't count on it. I've been slowly and cleverly converting some of the regulars around here over to some lesser known songs, via Levar-ovision

    ;)

Lesser known songs accompanied by one vastly superior song whose inclusion is unfair on the others :D

Have I time to create 20 fake profiles to ensure my act wins???

    Votes have been counted.

The winning act by 9 - 8 votes, and the greatest music act of the 80s is....

    Queen 9 - 8 The Cure

Hard to argue with that really. Well it is, the obvious correct answer is Talking Heads and therefore the whole competition has been a sham, but I suppose Queen will do at a push. :D

I'm happy with either. Very worthy finalist there.

    Brilliant comp, Kolido

    a worthy winner!!

Once again kolido, thank you very much for another excellent competition!!

Jaysus 9-8 was much closer than I thought. Assumed it would've been a landslide for Queen. I don't mind The Cure, but wouldn't rate them anywhere close to being the greatest music act of any decade...

Thanks for running the comp Kol! Was a lot of fun.

Queen were a deserving winner for sure. I Want It All is my favourite Queen song, and one of my all-time favourite songs, plus they had a lot of other great hits in the '80s, so was an easy vote for me in the Final...

I am surprised The Cure made the final and now was so close by 1 vote with Queen

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,908 ✭✭✭✭Rothko

The Cure were one of my nominations so disappointed that they didn't win but I won't argue too much about Queen taking the title

    9-8

Who are the 8 Queen haters out there so I can block you on Boards and erase you from memory forever?

    But Queen won......yaaaaaaaay!!!!

I voted for The Cure in the final.
I was 17 when Disintegration was released and it blew my mind. Still in my top-10 of favourite albums of all time.
    And an amazing live band!!

"Hater" is too strong a word, but they wouldn't generally be my cup of tea. They did have some great songs though, and it's undeniable that Freddie Mercury was one of the most gifted singers and showmen of his generation. So I suppose there could have been less deserving winners (not in this match-up, though; The Cure should have won! :p )

Thanks again for running Kolido, look forward to the next one. :)

Delighted that in spite of me being the only person to nominate Guns N Roses they bravely fought into the Quarters and avenged their embarrassment at the hands of A-Ha in the song contest.

Equally AC/DC, Bon Jovi and Bruce should have gone much further than their positions. Happy with the winner though.
