Laptop for Isolating Older Folk

Hi all,

My dad is currently isolating and could use a new laptop. His current machine runs Windows 7 and he's not capable/comfortable updating to windows 10 on his own. He's also concerned that his machine has no antivirus software. It's also a laptop that's getting on a bit, so it's time for an upgrade.

He uses the internet, skype and word processing etc. Nothing heavy draining on the CPU. I think he'd enjoy the boot-up speed of an SSD, however.

It's important that the laptop is available for delivery to his location in County Dublin and something I can help him set up over the phone.

Here are two options I've come across that fit the above spec, but I'm wondering if anyone has any better options - around or below that budget.

both are ok and not dissimilar in specs.

maybe upgrade the ram down the line when possible

they both do


the hp has one slot so buy a 8gb to replace the 4gb in there

the acer has soldered ram (4gb) and one slot free so buy as little as 4gb to upgrade

dd4 sodimm ram is not too expensive at the moment 8gb is £30 or so
