Hi, my dad had a minor day procedure done for skin cancer a few years ago and is now looking at getting health insurance. How would that affect his claim if he ever got another form of cancer? Thanks for your help.

If it's a primary (new) cancer, he will be covered. If it's a secondary (metastatic) cancer, lack of cover will probably be the least of his worries. But you said the skin cancer was 'a few years ago', the standard waiting period for pre-existing conditions is five years.

You also need to be aware that his premium will be loaded if he has had a gap of 13 weeks or more in his cover since April 2015. It's a 2% uplift for every year above age 34, payable for up to a maximum of 10 years.
