This topic deserves its own thread.

Earlier this year the FDA "approved" a cocaine nasal spray under the brand name Numbrino in the US.

I wonder how long it will be before people in Ireland with sinus problems cough cough will be able to go down to the their local pharmacy and get some cocaine in the form of nasal spray ?

FDA approves Philadelphia company’s cocaine drug

The generic-drug manufacturer Lannett Co. Inc. was given approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Monday to market a branded anesthetic containing cocaine.

Lannett, of Northeast Philadelphia, previously had sold an unapproved cocaine hydrochloride solution, C-Topical, subject to the FDA’s enforcement discretion. The new cocaine pharmaceutical will be sold as a topical solution called Numbrino.

I'd say in about 10 years time cocaine will start to become legal in the states just like cannabis is now.

Is this any different from the long established use of pharmaceutical cocaine for local anesthetic?

The bill for ingestion of Domestos is with Congress as I type.

Isnt it already legal and used in dental work mainly? Obviously under a different name. I'm sure the amount in this spray is negligible but would it show up in a drug test? Loads of places still test their employees. Also its an anesthetic, for use during procedures only, pretty sure it won't be available in a pharmacy

I was genuinely interested as I have awful sinus problems but look here:

Otolaryngologists who buy Numbrino will use the drug as a local anesthetic during nasal operations. The drug will not be available for ordinary retail

It's vasoconstricitve properties are much more valued in this scenario

Actually Local Anesthetics don't use cocaine. They use chemicals structurally related to cocaine. But they differ in that they don't cause vasoconstriction and hypertension. They also have a lower abuse potential.

This spray is different in that as far as i can tell it is actual cocaine that is the ingredient.

To prevent bleeding? But there are other ways of doing it?

Its interesting because now unlike Germany (which has also legalized cocaine medically) and portugal (which has legalized cocaine for personal use up to 2 grms) etc the US has made it legal to grow cocaine to transport it etc and sell it for medicinal purposes.

The us is one of the few countries making a pathway for future consumption /growth /trade of cocaine without any of it being tainted by gangs.

Think about it you make cocaine legal. Immediately gangs profit until you get legal businesses up and running.

canada seems to be doing the same thing.

Its legal to grow and use personally in Argentina and Bolivia but not to sell.

If I am right they have obviously learnt from Brazil Bolivia etc that legalizing one part of the business and not all only pays the gangs. And also you have to get legal businesses not connected to gangs up and running if you want any kind of control.

Meh, this is just like the whole THC versus CBD in Cannabis.

TBH its only a matter of time that its legalized.

Its prob for the best its taking the money out the wrong hands and potentially taking the gun out of cocaine.
