Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Custom Built Laptop

    Hi all,

    I am wondering if from a value point of view, does it make more sense to buy a custom laptop if I am able to install Windows 10 & Microsoft Office myself.

    I have a unused CD Key for Windows 10 Home edition and Microsoft Office 2016 which I can install myself.

    On the above link for example, removing Windows 10 cuts the price significantly, speaking of which, has anyone bought anything from pcspecialist.ie

    I bought a laptop off em. Got it in 2016. Had to replace the screen after two years (not sure if it failed or the kids broke it). Apart from that no issues and the buying process was grand for me.

    It is for a friend of mine who has a budget of around €300-€350 (looking for fairly entry level), considering I had the Windows 10 licence and Microsoft office already, it seems like a good way of getting the best value for money.

    the n4000 cpu is rubbish.

    the n5000 cpu is passable but not great obviously...

    I'd be very wary of battery times on the laptop. Take it with a pinch of salt any suggested length of time a battery will last. Particularly is you are doing anything intensive with the laptop.

    36wh battery in the cheapest one

    that is a small battery

    but the n5000 is a low wattage cpu (only 6 watts)
