7 pm curfew in Washington. That gives protesters about 10 minutes notice

Everyone knew the Trump presidency would be a disaster but I thought it would be in more an incompetent type of way (which it is). And here we are with the President of the United States mobilising the military against his own citizens. Unbelievable.

    Against the rioters and looters.
No mention of the protestors being targeted.

Sad. Wonder would you say a word if your mother head her place burned to the ground or was viciously assaulted trying to protect it.

    She’s insured.

    Assault is different from arson.

Big dog whistle with his 2nd amendment comment.

Needless and dangerous but he is such a dumb ass it's painful.

Too much talk about force. Not enough about the murder.

Gone down the wrong road again

    I got that impression too.

How else can the government and police take back control?

They could send the tanks into tiananmen square and run over the protestors.

    Oh wait.

That's kinda what you need when you have 30+ cities on fire for the last 4 nights and absolute anarchy and lawlessness on the streets.

Maybe he should change tack. After all, Trump being divisive and confrontational is a big part of the current problem.

Trump dropping a hint for those getting targeted by thugs '' I'm here to protect the 2nd amendment''

Yeah it sounded like an invitation.

Instead of idiots marching during a pandemic why don't people boycott American goods and companies ..companies like Mc Donalds ...google etc. Stop buying anything American.

You think people in the US care if there is a march in Ireland?

People here queued for literally 3 hours for Mc Donalds and Krispy Kreme last week. That won't be happening.

Is American a racist country? Is it systemically racist?

Do scumbag officers acting like scumbag officers make the entire structure of the country racist if every so often it is black people that come under their punishment?

Just how bad are the actions taken to curb protests given the descent into rioting and looting. If the same was happening here, we'd expect our police to take to the streets to restore order. In fact if they didn't, we'd say the Government and the AGS had failed us.

Have you not been paying attention at all?

The spark that ignited this was a police officer using undue force, to the point where he killed an unarmed, compliant black man. There are now dozens of videos floating about of police officers, shooting people in the face with rubber bullets, dragging black teenagers from cars, pushing peaceful pensioners to the ground, driving over peaceful protesters, making white supremacist signs, shooting real bullets and killing people - and the people they are doing this to are journalists, kids and peaceful protesters. If the people who are supposed to be protecting you start to shoot and bully you, then what do you think will happen?

The black people of america are saying the government & police force have not only failed to protect them, they are the very ones that a large part of society are afraid of.

Trump deploying the military: not likely. That’s martial law, and he didn’t threaten or declare to do that.

I wager he is bluffing atm.

As for wondering if Trump does or doesn’t want clashes: did he just announce a curfew 11 minutes before it goes into effect?

If there are riots happening in over 35 cities how else do the police and government take back control and restore order?

Be realistic here for a minute

Yeah it's brilliant to see the President of the United States mobilising the military against their own citizens. FFS.

He is protecting a far greater number of their own citizens from the thuggery.

A President also needs to assure people that the murder will be top of the agenda and the necessary police reforms instigated.
But, it's been going on for decades now covering multi presidents.

Do you want it to increase to 50+ because that's how you get this to increase massively.

Trump dropping a hint for those getting targeted by thugs '' I'm here to protect the 2nd amendment''

Last thing they need over there now is those very fine people out on the streets armed to the teeth.

Military leaders won't fire on their own people, they'll most likely over throw him in a coup. Governors are planning too

About 3 years too late, didn't he send in the military to shoot the virus as well?

Ah well then! It all works out. No way that's gonna cost in the long run. Rebuiding and explofing premiums. Hey let's torch the schools and hospitals just for the craic while we're at it.

Yes. Many of whom are engaging in illegal activity resulting in public disorder, the damaging of property and committing a whole rake of other crimes. If he didn't do it he would still be hung.

National Guard and US Military being deployed.
If cities and states don't immediately stop riots, he says military will.

i don't think he did enough to seperate those with underhand aims from those black protestors with a totally legitimate aim.

Sums it up. Started off about Floyd, which was good, then the riots (fair enough) but didn't address the core issue of regular police brutality or the numerous incidents of innocent people being harmed by police in the last few days.

Not if history is anything to go by. LA92. Complete disorder in the Los Angeles area was only resolved after the National Guard, the United States military and several federal law enforcement agencies intervened.

    Exactly!

I know what you are saying. It was a glib comment to make. But his death makes me irrationally angry.

    Some assembly required.

Personally, I think it needs to be done, but it needs to be accompanied by the governors putting every single police officer on administrative leave in any state where evidence of police brutality / excessive force has been shown in the last week or so. Then conduct a federal investigation with people being reinstated as they're cleared (bodycam footage, etc).

You impose martial law so you have a means to end the rioting and police the regions, but stripping the police of their powers (temporarily) gives people a reason to stop rioting, and takes away the capability of adding more fuel to the fire.

Be some craic if Putin or Ji Xinping called for an emergency session of the UNSC to condemn American oppression of its citizens.
