The US is a systematically racist state from top to bottom. This is incredible what’s happening.

Can you see how a peaceful protest would be more effective?

What can the prosecutor have hoped to gain by saying what he said btw? No one would expect that the people will hear him, say "ok guys, its all finished now" and go home. Surely he had to know, in the middle of riots, giving the impression the guys might get away with it , at the very least wouldnt help.

Why not just say nothing till everything dies down?

They just arrest a black reporter live on air yet the police officer who commit murder on video is still a free man. Jesus christ.

Rioting and looting will often attract opportunists from all over the place.

If you recall the Love Ulster riots in Dublin. A small protest was joined by a few hundred bored locals, who turned it into a riot. These were then joined by a load of others who engaged in the looting, including a number of people who weren't even on O'Connell Street for the initial riots, but wanted to get in on the craic.

And it wasn't just a load of locals; there were looters from all walks of life, private school kids, culchies, etc. Even some foreign nationals.

Looters, rioters and protestors usually form 3 completely distinct groups in these events, with very little overlap.

While a white reporter working in the exact same area is free to go about his work.

    Privilege pass .

Why do you think that there is little of no mention of the good white folk looting stores and taking part in the riots

CNN just released quite a statement claiming breach of first amendment rights.

In what way though? Would you head down to currys and get a new tv? How is that showing the police they are wrong?

The city can be brought to a standstill by mass demonstrations without the need to smash peoples shops and steal everything in them.

Say this goes on for another few days then quietens down. Everyone goes back to life. The government have been affected in the same way whether the city is shut down for days by mass protests than if its shut down by private businesses being destroyed.

As usual, they probably forget it all happens and continue as they were before.

The only people left affected now are the people who have no jobs. Which will mostly be made up of local, minimum wage workers.

    Yes.

    Their color is irrelevant here.

People looting is the serious problem..

Black, white or whatever color.....all people!!

They didn't even say why they arrested him. Very sinister.

"Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon. which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it. It is a sword that Heals"

I'm sure you can identify who said that with ease.

To be fair, outside of a certain few, people are talking about "rioters" , not "black rioters"

It's quite obvious theres a cross section of people who have decided to go free shopping.

they tried a peaceful protest and the police fired rubber bullets at them.

Was the guy not answering him when he was asking? Just we could hear the reporter cos he had a mic. Everyone has masks so hard to tell if someone is talking.

Everything about this is so effed up.

The initial killing was shocking. From legitimate anger and protest to looting and burning (a library was torched I believe).

Military style policing raising the temperature and then arresting journalists. Then Trump pouring petrol on the flames with his grade-A moronic tweets.

    Get it together America.

they tried a peaceful protest and the police fired rubber bullets at them.

But that still doesnt show how stealing everything and destroying stores is doing anything productive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

Completely OT buts what the deal with Trumps face while he was talking about this earlier? It looks like he was wearing sunglasses while they were spraying his orange on. He looks like a panda.

It doesn't do anything productive. What is the alternative?

Going to be really interesting to see how the 'CENSORSHIP!!!!' 'muh free speech' crowd spin this arrest.

Is this not a case of selection bias? How many police men are in America and how many black people get killed every year.

My relatives actually live in the States and they say most black friends of theirs (keep in mind black African immigrants not African Americans) have never experienced trouble with the police.

When my father was in America, he said that he was never stopped by police despite being black as coal.

but it does show that a peaceful protest is pointless when you are up against ingrained racism

"A black reporter from CNN was arrested while legally covering the protests in Minneapolis. A white reporter also on the ground was not."

    Says it all.

They were told to move and refused apparently.

Ergo police would be correct if that's the case.

Not smash the private businesses up and put people out of a job making a good case for people to say you werent really protesting , you just fancied a free tv?

Theres no shortage of Government buildings to direct protests at.
