Add sports to that. Who tf are you supporting if you're waving a Palestinian flag at a Sligo Mayo game?

At least when Wenger was still manager of Arsenal, you'd see the odd "Wenger Out" placard at protests.

It seems some people are upset that PBP activists disingenuously availed of today's Black Lives Matter protest for self-promotion and to promote their party. This is something I've observed going on for years and it always rubbed me the wrong way. Anytime there is a protest for anything in Ireland, whether it's a march against water charges or the closure of a local hospital, there is always some grubby moron waving a Palestinian flag. Seems to be mainly Leftist groups like PBP and SF who pull this crap but if anyone has evidence of other parties doing so I will gladly stand corrected. It comes across as not caring about the issue at hand and shoehorning your own personal agenda to the forefront. Ireland must be the top customer for Pally flags worldwide.

Mods: please don't merge this thread with another as the topic is not solely related to today's Black Lives Matter protest. This has been going on for years,

The crimes against the Palestinian people are manifest and they are appalling. What is your problem with people showing their support for this cause?

FYI: the left and far left would have more than a passing interest in equality, fairness, the well being of minorities. That's kind of their thing.

PBP are nothing but a pile of ****e, free everything for everyone ****ing wasters that wouldn’t know the meaning of hard work and personal responsibility if it kicked them right in their wrinkly commie ballsacks. A pack of wasters and nothing more. They can **** off.

"Free everything for everyone" ? Really? What do they advocate in their manifesto? That nobody should work and that everybody should have all their needs met without lifting a finger?

They espouse that everyone gets a free house, car, food, entertainment and doesn't have to work? That's hardly a sustainable model. I haven't read their manifesto so I'm open to correction but who do they expect to build the free houses and make the free food?

    Just curious.

Never mind the make up of the usual rent-a-mob, they're all a bunch of utter fcukwits, attending a protest like that while Dublin's a hotspot for a highly contagious pathogen.

Irony is they'd be the same people tweeting about the disproportionate mortality rate from covid among ethnic minorities.

If the 4 thugs who murdered Mr. Floyd actually kept their 1.5 metre social distance the man would still be alive.

Without going too off-topic, Irish political parties range from the Left to Far-Left. Think about it - they're all pro-EU, pro-immigration, pro-gay, pro-abortion. They agree on everything. Our elections are a farce selection between Tweedledum and Tweedledee. You have to laugh when the perpetually outraged mob try to portray Leo Vardadkar, the gay brown man, as some sort of fascist authoritarian. The student crowd would love if Ireland had a far-right boogeyman to rally against but it simply doesn't exist in this country. Probably why they latch onto American politics and seethe over Trump.

    What the FCUK?

These issues aren't about right and left, they're about right and WRONG. You think homosexuality should be outlawed? You want to go back to the heady days of backstreet abortions? You think asylum seekers should be sent back to die in the places they are trying to flee from.?

To be fair they wouldn't. They might have to get a full time job when they graduate rather than drifting between full time unemployment and 8 hours a week waitressing in a gourmet burger joint.

Ya, the Soviet Union, Cambodia under Pol Pot, and Cuba under Castro were real bastions of equality, fairness, and human rights.....

What percent of asylum seekers are at risk of death?

Your recent flavour of the month Ellie Kisyombe was granted asylum (or was it "you're a spoofer but you've been here long enough" status?), a couple of weeks later she went back on holiday to Malawi.

She's also living in a HAP home in the inner city, so I'm guessing that costs the state at least 1800 to north of 2k per month.

Frontism is a very old tactic of Left parties.

At its most benign it merely means forming a common front with others on a shared interest. This is a reasonable and effective tactic.

However the Marxist tradition that PBP inherited includes using a front on a popular issue for party advantage. This can be to recruit followers through a single issue front ("you think water charges/bin charges/ the 8th amendment/US police brutality are bad? Join our protest and come to the meeting after where I'll tell you about how they're simply a manifestation of a greater evil, capitalism"); or it can be done by manipulating the power structure of the front so that it is dominated by the Marxist party (the Republican side of the Spanish civil war is the best example of this, but far left parties attempt it with every major protest movement here).

PBP itself was a rebranding of the Socialist Workers Party here, presumably to connect to a youth audience left cold by the older SWP image. The Socialist Party was similarly rebranded.

Sometimes such attempts can be comical. The Maoist Spartacists briefly adopted a position of justice for Michael Jackson in the 2000s, when he was facing sex abuse court cases, on the basis that he was a victim of the racist capitalist system..

If there’s a spike in coronavirus cases in the next few weeks then attending this might come back to bite them on the ass. PBP that is.

    .

PBP are so left that they don't even have to be in power to contribute to economic chaos. Jeez, at least in Venezuela and Greece they needed to get into office first.

It's gas reading the Connolly Youth Movement bollocks on FB. PBP are basically somewhere to the right of Thatcher by their loopy standard :pac:

The minorities that's don't deviate from their opinions that is. Be a black US republican, a gay person critical of Islam or say a woman against gender neutral toilets and changing rooms and see how much of a welcome you get

Ah here! They’re a fairly simple protest party, most of whom originated around the Irish Water stuff and anger over the financial crash. I think you’d be giving them a lot of undue credit to paint them as some kind of complex party of highbrow ideology.

Ireland has relatively few politicians that I would call extreme anything ideological. There are a few individual political figures that fit that bill, but not many. It’s not the kind of political system or atmosphere that tends to go for ideologues.

I find some of this use of language like “extreme Marxists” in reference to the Irish left or “Tories” in reference to FG tends to be hyperbolic reductive nonsense.

They're basically the Socialist Party / Socialist Workers Party, they rename and rebrand themselves every few years but it's the same individuals going back decades

    Naive much?

Seems kind of unfair to mock and belittle Americans who rallied against lockdown measures as reckless morons, then convene in a Twitter-made-flesh assembly in complete contravention of public health guidelines.
