Came across a postal order gift that's over a year old. Can I still cash it? Or is it like the all for one that depreciate over time?

Used to be that if a postal order was over a certain age, you had to pay a penalty equal to the original charge, known as the 'poundage'.

There's nothing about late encashment on the An Post website, best to bring it to a post office with some photo ID and see what they say.

Found one a couple of years ago, this was the email reply (not sure if still valid, or address box is the same, so best to call etc):
Send the Postal Order to Money Trans 3A GPO Dublin 1 with all your details and a refund will be sent to you.

    Did you have success?

It's still in storage buried amongst a box of paperwork and old corporate accounts up in the attic. was only for 40notes. but will have to dig it out, put a stamp on it, and lash it out, hopefully with not too much % depreciation.

Might ping them out a return email just incase the pobox/dept address has changed since.
