Reading this it strike me that we have an admission by one of 'the great and the good' (well, RTE are quoting her, so she must be 'officially approved of') that we are importing large numbers of foreign workers who lack rudimentary English.

Surely it is time for a proper debate about this issue particularly when the unemployment rate is now close to one in four apparently.

Where does it talk about us importing foreign workers with no English. That article you linked to is about face masks.

    There:
Dr Duffy said that many workers with poor English who are working in factories can lack understanding about social distancing and how to self-isolate at home, and it can be difficult for GPs to communicate properly with them.

Our unemployment rate is nowhere near 25%.

Dr Duffy needs to hire an interpreter.

With 500k out of work why the fcuk would we import any workers? Where are the jobs? Media are telling us at least 300k of those job losses may be permanent. The excuse of needing workers is well and truly shattered.

Much of the factory and basic grunt work will be automated by 2030, well 50% (of all current jobs of all skills) will be gone too by the W2-automation phase during mid2030's. Only the very highest skilled roles (with highest education/fluency) will exist as we proceed into the 4th industrial reveloution.

    Then what's gonna happen?

If we dont recruit because the applicant has only rudimentary English where will the Dubs get jobs?

The employers are going to the trouble of spending money on an agency that recruits workers from an impoverished EU country for the crack, could it be possible that they were finding it difficult to recruit locally. The business is there to make money they don't care where the workers come from.

Why are we importing large numbers of foreign workers with no English? Possibly because of all the idiotic and paranoid xenophobes raised here who aren't worth employing.
