In order for a healthy democracy to function (and ultimately survive) do we not need to develop a culture of public civic debate (with opposing views) rather than the current model of furrowing deeper into our own world views on our well worn keyboards?

How could more public civic debates among the citizenry not be a good thing, indeed an essential thing for a healthy democracy? If we can't do this publicly and civilly then can we claim to live in a democracy?

Personally I don't think there was ever a time in human history when public debate was more vital than it is now as we all drown in a sea of information and complexity.

    What do you think?

P.s. I get the irony of this post :)
