Guest presenter today is Hazel Chu, Green party Lord Mayor of Dublin.

If she doesn't get elected at the next heneral election it certainly won't be the fault of the MSM who have promoted her at every possible opportunity

Can't stand more than a minute of her child like babbling, she hasn't got a voice for radio that's for sure that's before even getting to the expected "right on" topics.

I was referring to a guest that Andrea had on. Some journalist talking rubbish about the Royal Family tv show and how a warning at the beginning is good if you are 'sensitive'.

    Today:

"A bird sh1t on me..." Pure class. Well done Andrea. Great to see Newstalk flying the flag high for broadcasting standards on national radio.

What an idiot. Same type of person who touches the wall to see is the paint wet, when they see a 'Wet Paint' sign.

Surely "shat" is the past tense of that verb?

Indeed it is. I'm sure she'll correct herself first thing tomorrow. She can't be letting standards slip now, can she?. :)

What does that moron whinging think other people do who have to go to work?

The only thing worse than bringing back ciara is bringing back kids talk. Is that there to stay?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,536 ✭✭✭Cole

Opening item..."let us know how you're feeling about the lock down". An avalanche of moaning about first world problems I'm predicting. I'll have to get to the dial quicker in future when Pat's show ends.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,624 ✭✭✭✭meeeeh

I can't listen to it at all. I disliked the format even when Ciara was doing it but she was a bit better at it. This types of shows are constant whinging mixed with opinions nobody wants to hear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 295 ✭✭gourcuff

decent discussion on people trying to get on the property ladder in dublin when paying rent.

Its obviously not sustainable and with remote working people are going to think why am i paying stupid rent to live in a shoebox in a city they have no connection to and often have no real attachment to.. no brainer to move out if your job will allow it..

Discussing vaginisimus now, quite intimate discussion, none of the usual Newstalk warnings that this might not be suitable for little ears like they normally do.

That's because Andrea is such a professional broadcaster. She also had a pointless long winded piece about the proposed Cork/Limerick motorway. Clueless except when it comes to her unending quest to find a property - and perhaps given her failure to do so she's clueless in this area too.

I put up with about a week of Andrea but I've not been back. Another poster on here said she sounded like she should be on midlands radio not NewsTalk. The contrast between her and Pat Kenny is huge.

Despite his Covid obsession, Pat Kenny is streets ahead of all other radio broadcasters. Dreading when he retires.

why midlands radio? why shouldn't she be on newstalk??, i think shes good in a difficult slot

For fcuks sake...talk about first world problems. "What was the hotel room like?"...for your mandatory quarantine in Australia. References to rugby players and their girlfriend's social media sh1te. As this conversation progresses, it almost gets offensive.

    Off switch

Good to see ill informed, strident, shouty opinionated Andrea back - another train wreck of a programme, :D

At least she must have got on the property ladder as she even managed to turn a rubbish piece about decluttering (never heard an item about that before) into being about her clearing out due to moving. Like most Newstalk broadcasters - it's all about me.

I was just coming in to post about that.

How in all honesty is asking someone to describe, on national radio no doubt, what rubbish they are throwing out of their attic is in anyway radio worthy.

She couldn't wait to get her oar in over moving either.

    Difficult slot?

She does what Elaine does at 3pm on Virgin One. She does what Joe Joe duffy does at 1.45. Easiest slot in the business. Choose a topic and let other people talk about it.

I went to Meatloaf in The Point Depot years ago and one of the warm up acts was a teenager with an acoustic guitar playing Wonderwall. She's like the warm up act, except she comes on after Pat, not before.

    What is this madness

Andrea really bottom fishing now trying to help a potential stalker track down some girl who he is in love with but doesn't even know her name.

It's a bit of fun. Some light relief during a time when we're surrounded by doom and gloom.

    Lighten up ffs.

A bit of fun? I'm not easily offended, but if some randommer that I served coffee to once, went on national radio declaring he loved me, when he doesn't know my name, let alone if I'm Irish, or if I'm married or have a partner I certainly don't think that's a bit of fun.

He sounded like a stalker, and absolutely shouldn't have been given a second of airtime.
I really hope the poor girl isn't too frightened by this. It should not have been aired. The whole thing was badly thought through.

Caller should have rung Lavhline where such nonsense is regular fare and who knows there could have been a death, a spot of cancer or a "dog of the pandemic" involved if the show had been properly researched.

Agreed. Could not believe what I was hearing.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/courts/2021/0204/1195051-courts-cork/

Andrea is simply not good enough for national radio; she wants the listeners to carry the show for her. I was only listening today because I heard she was discussing workplace bullying.

Not a fan of that show, but at least the host can interview and carry the program.

That segment was bonkers. I'm all for romance and taking a chance but that story seemed a bit off to me. He thinks her name is Joanna and he loves her. Bonkers.

I don't think I've made it past 20 minutes listening to this awful show.

To add insult to injury the caller had an irritating way of talking.

Oh FFS. No-one at any level has suggested manditory vacination.

the cross border travel fines /5km fines is going to be very messy.. it plays into alot of unionist arguments about brexit.. i.e. we went full force saying no borders as a result of brexit, breaches gfa etc, cant be policed or controlled, now we will do with fines.. not that i agree, but could be seen as hypocritical..

call me cynical but with his "Mrs" going on about "clickity clack" of the lid of the laundry tablets, I think he is just trying to market himself and make money as Covid has reduced the earning power of a lot of these "celebrities"

He was promoting his alcohol free gin or something similar. I know he launched his company a while ago and that kind of interviews are part of the promotional activity for non or low alcoholic drinks he is selling.

I suspect he is doing quite well so I don't think it was desperation but it was pure advertising.

Another amazing piece of advertorial for an auctioneering firm looking for items for their forthcoming collectables sale. Imagine, this could lead to a programme - we could call it "Cash in the Attic". Talk about a topic that has been flogged ("Flog it") to death.
