Been following this thread since last night and was just wondering why nothing from Annie Lennox got nominated? I know theres a few Eurythmics songs in there but she has some great solo stuff - No More I Love Yous and Walking on Broken Glass are cracking tunes and theres a few more besides those two

Because these boardsies have terrible taste, obviously.

    I think there's a penchant for 80's cheese too.

ETA: if you had asked me to pick my least favourite songs sung by women the likes of Kim Carnes would be right up there.

One of my nominations was a Eurythmics song. I prefer that period more, they have at least 3 superb albums.
From her solo stuff, if anything I would have nominated Why.
No More I love Yous - and the whole Medusa album in general was the only album she ever made that I didn't like.

well you might find it cheesy, but I grew up with 80's pop music and I will never use the words 80s and cheese in the same phrase.
And I will be voting for 80's songs most of the time :)

(I'll give you Kim Carnes though :D - not my favourite 80s song and a tad overplayed

I think cheese, unfortunately, covered the 80's - I was only a teen for most of it and I preferred Ska, Two-Tone, Bowie etc to all the other stuff - I grew up listening to 50's and I still think some of the best female vocalists reside in that era.

    Yosser beat ya to it!

That's that round done and dusted in super quick time. I'll put up list of eliminated now.

    ok, got you.
I guess we will agree to disagree on this one.
I grew up with all the pop music that was on the charts - especially between 1986 and 1988 (and that includes all the Stock/Aitken/Waterman production machine - I still listen to some of them) and have gone to a number of 80's pop festivals. And to the question: favourite artist of all time, the answer still remains: Duran Duran.

I discovered most of the rock and darkwave side of the 80s much later in my life and many of them are in frequent rotation in my playlists, along all the 80s pop I love :)

Think it's the total score in the qualifying round. Max 460 (23 people, 20pts each)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,213 ✭✭✭Irish Aris

I think I have 3 nominations left in the competition - the ones I expected to make it to round 3.

    :(

Three more of my nominations gone, only three remaining now.

Thought Somebody To Love would go a bit further tbh, but sure what can you do when there are so many people with questionable taste out there! :p (Tbf My Favourite Game is a good tune, but still.....)

Tbh, I prefer the In Tua Nua version of Somebody to Love, but that match was a tough call.

Over the last few weeks there were 23 players who scored every song that was nominated (total of 373 songs). The top 128 went through to these live rounds.

The lists you see at beginning of thread are the songs that didn’t make it to the live round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,074 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

Remarkable that there are 8 songs which received an average of 16 points or greater from each of the 23 voters and yet they are out of the competition while 32 tracks still remain.

It'll be interesting to see a comparison of what scores all songs received and where they exited the knock out stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,517 ✭✭✭✭Tauriel

And I'm down to two as one of mine didn't even feature in the qualifiers.

Sarah Brightman ft Andrea Bocelli was my nom to go out in this round.

Black Velvet Alannah Myles - Dolly has better songs than 9 to 5

Teardrop Massive Attack - one of my last remaining noms

Fast Car Tracy Chapman (sorry Zaph!)

Dont Speak No Doubt - more of a classic than White Flag, though the latter is a good song
