When I saw Mazzy Star first I thought it would be some pop-rap-crap like Rihanna, but they are really good.
Great band but they should really sort that name out.

Not much chance of that, unfortunately. The guitarist died not that long ago.

5 of my nominations gone, four finished with high points but failed to qualify whilst one has been eliminated in a head to head

If I'm counting correctly, 8 of my 15 made it to the final 128. That's actually not too bad, I guess.

    These are my fallen nominations:
    Did Not Qualify

    278 Into Dust Mazzy Star
    274 Cannonball The Breeders
    243 Space Song Beach House
237 Sisters Of The Moon Fleetwood Mac
220 Keep The Streets Empty For Me Fever Ray
206 Nude As The News Cat Power
    198 Bachelorette Bjork

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,891 ✭✭✭✭Rothko

Oh dear :( And they split up?

I assume they have as he was their main songwriter afaik.

4 of mine out in the qualifying round, including one in particular that I'm really disappointed didn't make the cut (and it's not the Liz Phair one, that came as no surprise :D). There's also one other nominated by someone else that I'm sad didn't make it.

So far in round 2, two of mine have come up, and two have been knocked out. Bette Davis Eyes better than Son of a Preacher Man? What is wrong with you people??? :(

Oh dear :( And they split up?

Was mainly just the two of them afaik, they probably had some supporting musicians but they were the only two permanent members so the band is effectively gone now.

The singer is Hope Sandoval, I know she had another side-project but I haven't really listened to them yet. She may continue to record but she's notoriously reclusive and shy.

Wasn't expecting most of my nominees to do well, as I was avoiding nominating the obvious classics...

    My fallen soliders...
    Did Not Qualify

    269 Babooshka Kate Bush
    248 Love Exists Amy Lee
    248 Satellite Lena
246 A Thousand Years Christina Perri
    224 No Filter Ward Thomas
202 Do You Feel It? Chaos Chaos
200 when the party's over Billie Eilish
197 I Will Never Let You Down Rita Ora
    193 Innocent Eyes Delta Goodrem
    189 Clarity Zedd feat. Foxes
    143 Sapokanikan Joanna Newsom

And of course machineheart went out already in Round 1 which is disappointing.

    3 Songs Remain...

But I still have another 8 to be knocked out in round 1 by you philistines. :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,686 ✭✭✭Pretzill

    I think I have 7 gone - including
Ella Fitzgerald - Moonlight in Vermont
    Billy Holiday - Strangefruit
Suzanne Vega - Small Blue Thing
    Joni Mitchell - River
    Janis Ian - At Seventeen
Joan Armatrading - Love & Affection
Judie Tzuke - Bring the rain

There could be more (¬_¬) some really strong female performers squashed. :(
