Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Wyoming flag is not loading for me, but I know in advance that it can't possible be as sh!t as PEI, so it gets my vote

The flag of Prince Edward Island features the English heraldic lion which appeared both on the coat of arms of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, for whom the province is named, and on that of King Edward VII. The lower two-thirds show an island on which appear three small oak saplings (on the left) – representing the three counties of PEI (Prince, Queens, and Kings) – under the protection of a great oak tree which represents Great Britain. This symbolism is also reflected in the provincial motto, Parva sub ingenti (the small under the protection of the great).

The flag of the state of Wyoming consists of the silhouette of an American bison. The red symbolizes the Native Americans and the blood of pioneers who gave their lives. The white is a symbol of purity and uprightness. The blue is the color of the skies and distant mountains. It is also a symbol of fidelity, justice and virility. The bison represents the local fauna, while the seal on it symbolizes the custom of branding livestock.

Thought sure I would vote the other way but it's going to be Wyoming for me. Love the symbolism.

Wyoming. I didn't like the PEI flag before but now that it turns out their big tree represents their British overlords I like it even less.

Seriously, come on Canada, you're better than this.

Prince Edward Island. It’s great. I don’t get the hate.

Two of my favourites and I'm going for Wyoming. Although I don't like seals on flags, this one is almost a watermark, with the cool bison getting prominence

    Flipped a coin, so Wyoming

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Wyoming does it. A superb run from the sparsely populated state!

Ooooh, two good ones here. I'll vote New Brunswick, because it's got a nice boat on it. But I wouldn't even mind if it was New Mexico that won this round.

New Mexico, nice and simple flag. Too much going on with the other one. Sometimes less is more.

New Mexico - very different from most US flags.
New Brunswick is too similar to PEI because of the lion.

New Mexico - quality flaggage. The other yoke is a painting.

    New Mexico. Breaking Flags.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,786 ✭✭✭KathleenGrant

It appears the symbolism of the flag of New Brunswick is uncertain.
The golden lion on red in the New Brunswick coat of arms may refer to the arms of England (a red shield with three golden lions) or to the arms of the duchy of Brunswick in Germany, which has two golden lions on red. On the bottom part of the New Brunswick shield is the heraldic vessel known as a lymphad, which may refer to the ship-building activities of the province or to the vessels in which many Loyalists arrived in New Brunswick from the United States in the late 18th century.

The flag of the U.S. state of New Mexico consists of a red sun symbol of the Zia people on a field of yellow, and was officially introduced in 1925. It was designed in 1920, to highlight the state's Native American Pueblo and Nuevo México Hispano roots. The colors evoke the flags of Habsburg Spain (the Cross of Burgundy), Spain and the Crown of Aragon, brought by the conquistadors.
It is one of four U.S. state flags not to contain the color blue (the other three being Alabama, California, and Maryland). It is the only one of these four not to contain the color white. The flag of the District of Columbia also has no blue, although it is partially white, making the New Mexico flag the only US flag with no blue or white.

Ok once again changing my mind. For me, after reading that, it has to be New Mexico.

New Brunswick for the boat, Viking ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 258 ✭✭Hill St Blue

New Mexico for me...lovely simplicity. I'm not a fan of the long drawn out lions tbh.

New Mexico. The other one is too fussy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

New Mexico wins by quite some distance!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,969 ✭✭✭✭alchemist33

Another 2 favourites for me. But this is where I ditch NM (even though it'll probably win). The New Brunswick ship is class so I'll vote for NB.

    Edit: whoops

    Alaska . So simple

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,426 ✭✭✭✭Fr Tod Umptious

    Alaska
Even though there is a buffalo on the Wyoming one they managed to brand it with a feckin state seal.

You can't move for a feckin state seal on an American state flag.

    So Alaska, simpler.

I am sticking with Wyoming I love the symbolism of it and the bison is cool.I also like the stamp on the bison

Two good flags but Alaska wins this for its simplicity yet scientific endeavour. (It has a bit of astronomy).
