Best album from the year you were born?

Not something I ever gave much thought to before if I'm honest, I just saw a chat about it on Instagram earlier and it seemed interesting.

Bit personal if you don't want to show your age I guess, but maybe it'll be easier if grandad here goes first :p

Was swinging between Roxy Music and the Stones, but went for this in the end...

So, what was going on in the year everyone was born?

For me it has to be Reign in Blood by Slayer. It still packs a serious punch today.

    Other contenders are:
The Smiths - The Queen is Dead
    Metallica - Master of Puppets
    Sonic Youth - EVOL

My first thought was that there were no albums of interest to me from the year I was born. However, when I looked into it, I found at least five albums that were at least interesting. I'm still not willing to disclose them, though, until I see some entries from at least the same year!

The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
    Doolittle - Pixies
    Disintegration - The Cure

1989 was a pretty good year for music, I think.

I'm not, and have never really been a fan of albums as such.
Most only have a few really good songs and the rest are rather mediocre, in my experience.

The self titled album David Bowie was originally released this year, 1969, then reissued a few years later as Space Oddity.

    Yes, I'm 51, and I'm proud.:D

You've been listening to the wrong albums then.

Top 5 for my year, a seriously brilliant one for music

1 Roxy Music - Roxy Music
    2 T.Rex - The Slider
3 Nick Drake - Pink Moon
4 David Bowie - The Rise & Fall Of Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars
5 Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street

Highly commended: Elvis Presley - Elvis Now!, Neil Young - Harvest, Slade - Slayed?, Beach Boys - Carl & The Passions: So Tough, Randy Newman - Sail Away, Big Star - #1 Record, David Ackles - American Gothic, Genesis - Foxtrot, Sandy Denny - Sandy, Lou Reed - Transformer, Status Quo - Piledriver, Joni Mitchell - For The Roses

Oof, way too many great albums the year I was born. There's no way I could pick just one.

    Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
Talking Heads - Fear Of Music
    The Jam - Setting Sons
    XTC - Drums And Wires
The Damned - Machine Gun Etiquette
Michael Jackson - Off The Wall
    Frank Zappa - Sheik Yerbouti

    1979.

Have to admit that I wouldn't be mad familiar with that many albums from the year of my birth, but this one opens with the Rolling Stones greatest ever song, so I'll look no further.
