Parking for students NUIG

My daughter will hopefully be starting in NUIG in September. We live a long way away, it would require a bus to Dublin and then another to Galway to get there so she had intended to drive. Her accommodation has no parking. The problem is where does she park the car. She wont really need it during the week as she intends to walk to college. Even a long stay Council car park will cost €5 a day which adds alot on to her costs. Anyone on here know what others do or have any bright ideas? I presume you cannot park over night in the NUIG park and ride? Also, if she was to park in one of the €5 a day car parks, would she be clamped if she left it there over night? All help greatly appreciated.

€5 a day for 5 days a week is probably the best she's going to get. Maybe there will be free on street parking near her accommodation or she may befriend some students who are renting privately but not using their parking space.

Car is probably going to cost her (you) 100 euro a week between all elements (including purchase cost). At that rate, she could nearly rent one when travelling home for a better price but I appreciate that at the start she may be coming home quite frequently.

She may end up making friends with someone who would have a parking space available or maybe one of the long term places would do a deal if you contacted them directly.
