The site must have Covid. Has it been tested?

At this point the situation is so bad, it has reached the point where no matter what the government do, if the people accept this and do as they are told, then I guess we collectively deserve the doom that it will bring. Humanity fully deserves the doom it is bringing upon itself by destroying the planet, and this country deserves its own doom if it doesn't rise up and throw these absolute clowns out onto the streets. There is no more excuse.

If Fianna Fail continue with wanting to follow NPHET advice, Fine Gael might walk out of government.

I agree with a full lockdown
Too many people have squandered the level 2 nirvana by just not washing hands and social distancing and behaving as if its gone
Question is will the government have the balls to implement level 5
No point implementing it unless they bring back the €350 etc
    Its been a costly complacency

They wouldn't have the cahonas IMO.

Numbers in the North are still a big cause for concern.

It seems that the differences between the two sectarian parties are leading to indecision. Time they both got their act together, put their world views aside and got on with sorting out the country they actually lead.

Seems its similar here, Leo and Mícheál need go put their views aside and get on with sorting the country they lead

I'm going to Lidl at 8am for my toilet rolls.

A short sharp universally enforced lockdown of 2-3 weeks is probably what's necessary. Go where we know the virus is and test like crazy.

A trusted member of the government that's over with the public needs to make a serious address that this the last shot at saving the economy and protecting lives. Tell them that Christmas is on the line, and that's probably reality so the government need to tell the public.

I'm not sure who that is, it's neither party leader regrettably.

    I've heard it all before.

The PUP will have to be put back at 350, or else this could turn bad for everyone

Big discussions between Tony and FF and FG tomorrow. I need a good night's sleep because there will be stuff hitting a fan in the morning.

All this is FF and FG fault, March they promise enough capacity is hospitals by now. Shock horror, its not even middle of October and we are struggling

A shambles. It's near a guarantee they will **** up whatever the **** move they make

What are you talking about? Report yesterday was that there was spare capacity.

There's people on trolleys all around the country in hospitals but they have spare capacity

Doctors, Nurses and Healthcare workers in HSE would disagree with you

The implication here is that there has been some kind of breakdown between NPHET and the government and that NPHET are putting the government in an impossible situation - dammed if they do and dammed if they don't and things get worse.

Crazy that the public are caught in the middle and we have to wait until after the cabinet meeting for some clarity. It should never have been made public until the cabinet meet.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 788 ✭✭✭Nobotty

Nphet always leak their decisions to journos immediately though so nothing different has happened there

I can see the country going to level 4 and Dublin and Donegal going to level 5
If they go level 5 without the north, they'll need to pass an emergency law to stop people coming across the border except for essential work and close the air and sea border
A fudge is going to come with a 4 week mid term break for schools, who knows

This sort of thing would never happen with an intellectual like Davey ‘Free State Bastards’ Cullinane as MoH.

Definitely not John, though he'd probably have struggled with some of the 18 other covids that came before the nineteenth covid we are fighting now.

Simon Harris will tell you how much of a bastard some of them were.

Government coming in for criticism for allowing the news to leak this way.

Can you outline how it is beneficial in any way Johnny?

*Without rattling the boogeymen under your bed that is.

Simon was tweeting this morning about the 'awful sleepless night' people may have had.

Easily avoided Simon...get your act together and tell NPHET not to release anything until after a cabinet meeting. Callous government tbh.

How can the government prevent leaks? It is not like they can call around in the middle of the night and drag you and administer a punishment beating, is it? Maybe a SF government could ensure that.

Have Gerry Kelly ring from Belfast and threaten to kneecap the entire NHPET team.

NPHET briefed journalists after their meeting at which they made the recommendation and sent the country into turmoil. Not hard to tell them not to do that until the cabinet meets and decides.

Give over with the snide cheap remarks and tell us what the benefit of that is?

To be fair, government might have told them to stay quiet if they had an inkling it was level 5 but they had no idea
There was no call for them to stay quiet up to now

Amazing how every 2nd post is a snide remark at SF. People try and put forward solutions and the usual posters come back with such nonsense.

Least they have their priorities right

Why are NPHET not on confidentiality agreements to stop them leaking things like this? Surely this would be common practice.

It's an adhoc committee I'd say,is there a statute even that set it up?

They can't stop leaks from the various parliamentary parties never mind NPHET.
When Govt Ministers (and Ministers of State...and advisers...) can't be trusted to keep their gobs shut how can anyone else?
