    Gender quota

So you're saying that McEntee has the Minister for Justice role this evening because she is a woman, and not because she was an extremely effective Minister for State?

Government are right wing. All opposition parties with the exception of independents are left wing.

    Irish politics changed today

I reckon SF are delighted to be sitting nice and comfy in opposition for the next few years while the new Government has to make unpopular decisions.

Whether or not they are, that's where they'll be for the next few years.

And no-one has a clue what will happen in 5 years' time.

Back in Feb they probably were interested in a shot at running the country but then corona hit and the economy took a nosedive, its win win for them to sit it out for the next few years and then mop up the votes when the electorate slaughter the 3 parties in power.

Happily, "the electorate" isn't quite as dumb as you'd like it to be. The extra seats, if any, that SF may win, will mainly be in sink constituencies where the losers will be the other parties of the left.

I didn't think she was 'extremely effective' Johnny.

They are all slightly to the right. The opposition parties are all slightly to the left with some more than others.

    This has never happened before.

Could you give one or two examples of why you didn't find her effective in her role, Francie?

    Government are right wing.

Good, we won't suffer the consequences of reckless spending by the left so.

And what is left is just un-electable as a government anyway.

No idea where you are going with this, I don't want a dumb electorate but there is a good chance the scenario I suggested might happen and I'm not a SF voter at all.

I vote either FF or FG.

FF/FG will take a hit but their core vote is fiercely loyal, the Greens won't be so lucky.

That's what Eoghan was saying they were saying but it's not what they're thinking :D

I don't think she did enough to get the justice minister job maybe a lesser role in arts and tourism. Herself and Donnelly will be the main targets for the opposition as they will be seen as weak. Martin will need to watch his back now as well, I knew he was desperate to be Taoiseach but didn't realise he was that desperate that he would do what he has done.

Could you give one or two examples of why you didn't find her effective in her role, Francie?

Generally, she was like an automaton basically repeating the lines she was given. I saw no real passion for the job.

Just saying, I don't know if she has what it takes, we'll see.

My bets are on Donnelly's head rolling first then hers. Based on the jobs they have to do and their perceived abilities.

Probably because of Fine Gael being in there

They showed an over head view of the seating area after the speeches by tds finished up. So much for the social distancing seating. Ministers and tds huddled together in small groups chatting.

5 years is a long time....even from Mary Lou point of view will she be around in 5 years

My view is better be in power and affect change than sitting in the background hoping someone makes a mistake.

Too many things can change to sit and hope it’s doesn’t go right for everyone else

Haven't seen MM's Seanad nominations posted anywhere, so here they are:-

    Mary Fitzpatrick (FF)
    Lorraine Clifford Lee (FF)
    Erin McGreehan (FF)
    Timmy Dooley (Cretin)
    Regina Doherty (FG)
    Aisling Dolan (FG)
    Emer Currie (FG)
    Mary Seery Kearney (FG)
    Vincent P Martin (brother)
    Róisín Garvey (GP)
Eileen Flynn (traveller - I think she ran in the Seanad elections)

So four female senators for FG, 3 for FF and 1 for the GP.

I think you are spot on. SF always wanted this scenario (FFG in govt) especially when they saw the looming economic recession that will shred the PFG and cause a lot of pain. The now have time to lead the opposition and make household names of some of their new TDs. I doubt the new government will last beyond 2022 anyway.
