Genetics and lots of work lead to success in any given sport. Just because you have the height does not a basketballer make, same as a jockey.

It takes lots of dedication and hard work to become anything in life and NO ONE is born to be a success.

Even if your parents are wealthy and pass on that to you, does that make you a success? No.

People will still think of you are the heir/ess to the fortune. Unless you PROVE to others that you are the correct heir/ess.

OP sounds like a complete and utter whinger, who wants everything handed to them on a silver platter... get off yer arse and work for it.

I couldn't ever be an NBA player, no matter how hard I tried. Yes I'm a whinger. I'm just making up lies.

Mattered for Michael Jordan. Also why tall people make more money?

To be fair Jordan for one was a hell of a ball player. And two he has proven himself as a very successful businessman.None of that he was born into,he worked for everything he has achieved.

If you were born at all then you are extremely lucky. Think of all the sperm cells that get flushed down the drain and all the eggs that get to spend their whole lives in an ovary

ironically, your predisposition to be looking for reasons not to give your best shot is also arguably predisposed

    ah well

How is that insulting... national tiddlywinks champion is a success for the champion.

by your metric, what do you define as a success?

I have read a lot of soccer player autobiographies, roy keane, vinnie jones, joey barton, jason mcateer, jamie vardy, danny higginbotham to name a few were all told they were too small to make it as a footballer. so they all gave up and went on the dole. or maybe not.

Look OP,we all have times where we sit and think,"Oh I wish I was this or had that".When we really never put in the effort or dedication to achieve it.Whereas others have, because they were more passionate than we were. You can't condemn them for it.

As for rating success,I have an older son who is a NYPD Captain, and a daughter who is a Veterinarian in London.Seeing my children thrive to me that is my success.Maybe in your eyes that makes me shallow or a fool, but there ya go.

Your success is mostly predetermined, though I think the example given in the OP is a poor one. If you’re a woman born in the Middle East your chances of becoming a successful businesswoman are less than that of a woman born in the west. Even comparing people within the same societies people will have different factors paying on their chances.

Grit and determination have been mentioned as more important factors but where do people think they come from? You don’t lick it up off the ground. Your genetics and upbringing will have a huge influence over that too.

And of course luck will play a role too. A lot of it is out of your control. Which is no good reason to give up on the little you can control. If anything the reverse is probably true. You can resign yourself to the fact that you can’t grow any taller because it ain’t gonna happen but you shouldn’t resign yourself to the fact that you didn’t pass an exam because with hard work you might.

People need to accept the fact that the universe is not a meritocracy; people aren’t guaranteed to get what they deserve. Some do. Some don’t. Let’s stop pretending otherwise.

Boris Johnson and Donald Trump didn't get to where they are without having an innate drive and pure expertise in their respective fields.

Your son is probably 6ft3+ as most police are well above average height.

I'd imagine the thread is mainly an excuse for a thinly-veiled "I'm quite tall" humblebrag from the OP

That is a very different argument, and quite ironically one worthy of far more merit than the circumstance raised by the OP.

Ones social circumstance and cultural ethnographic situation have far more impact on one's success than height.

Even height can in many cases be attributed to eating better than peers.
From which you can infer more family income as a child, from which you can infer better standards of living and education than a peer group.

The disposable income available to a family that is invested in food and education will have a far greater impact on life outcomes than height.

Couple that with the simple truth that the network of who you know, is far more valuable than what you know when getting established in life and the OP will have even more targets for their heightism and elitist angst ;)

    Trump is a moron.

He is not. Nor are most of his supporters.

Underestimating or denigrating the intelligence of those we don't like or don't agree with is not going help us to deal with them - quite the opposite in fact.

basketball isnt that good , im very tall , ive no interest in basketball , my extra height has no advantage but plenty of disadvantages

id far rather be 6ft 1 than the almost 6ft 5 i am

Maybe. Depends what category you’re comparing. Plenty of evidence that shows income doesn’t follow a normal distribution for height.
Even height can in many cases be attributed to eating better than peers.
From which you can infer more family income as a child, from which you can infer better standards of living and education than a peer group.

Not sure about that. Height has a genetic component too. Eating better is a bit broad; plenty of overweight tall people and slim small people. Who is eating better?
The disposable income available to a family that is invested in food and education will have a far greater impact on life outcomes than height

    Maybe.

But if, as you’ve suggested, disposable income plays a role in height then smaller people are already in the wrong cliques. Bit of a Catch 22.

You agreed with my point though. But why is it fair that they get paid millions just because they were born lucky?

Life isn't a level playing field. You make the most of what you have. Some people are smarter, fitter, have better genetics than others. Doesn't mean you don't bother trying.

I think we are dealing with a Napoleon complex here. My cousin is a blonde doctor who is married to a tiny civil engineer (5'4") wit a georgian house in Dublin. He will never play basketball (probably struggles to get to the pool table). He works with what he has is very successful and has his own company.

Its not what you were given its what you do with what you have. I know loads of smart guys who were convinced the world was against them and just smoked their lives away on a couch playing playstation.

Best advice on the thread. Loads of people get dealt lousy hands in life either through chance or their own bad counsel or circumstances. They overcome these obstacles and come out the other end stronger. Start reading biographies of these people and be grateful for what you have got. I deal with a lot of my issues with humour and it makes it easier.

There are so many bitter "mess corporals" in life. They are the has-beens, they had a little success in life it went to their heads. Then they stopped trying and later they are 50 at the same rank and they reflect bitterly what they could have been. They make every excuse and blame everyone else. Coulda been a Ranger, Apprentice, Pots Course, Military Police, got out early and started a business instead of being stuck with this lot.

Life is full of these people, see them, identify them and give them a wide beart. They will drain your time and energy and affect your mental health. Dont be one of these people.
