Photo Editing build

Hi guys - I'd like to think I know what I'm looking for with gaming builds - even if I do do stupid things like pair a 360mm AIO with a R5 3600 for 'reasons' but I'm a bit lost when it comes to photo editing.


The Father-in-Laws PC has gone pop and I think he's in the market for a new one anyway. What would be a good starting platform? Intel and the iGPU?


Also he has a monitor with something very similar to a DVI-Dual link, but I think it's a slightly diferent standard - any clues what that is?
Edit: It's like a DVI but with a + on the left rather than a -

Anything with enough horsepower to run the software. Editing isn’t gaming. The final image won’t turn out better. It might just take a few seconds longer.

Budget for an awesome large monitor and a really good printer. Editing is all about the peripherals.

He has a super-printer and for some reason it quite attached to the tiny but specialised monitor he has. I'm guessing a GPU isn't really needed for photo editing?

Photoshop can use GPUs to accelerate some workflows.

If he can wait a bit longer, AMD Ryzen 4000G "Renoir" will have Zen 2 cores + Vega iGPU.

Photoshop (and thats all itll be) only really benefits for filters when it comes to GPU acceleration. Something not from 2005 and youll be fine.
