Eddie and Eric will you go away there and have a read of what actual contributes to these university ranking surveys before trying to blame it on the darkies and foreigners.

Neither of you presented any rational point on why multiculturalism affects our (Ireland) university rankings.

Alright klaz so when should I fear off duty garda being set upon by immigrant gangs?

Dunno. I suspect we'll see Gardai being attacked (by migrants or their teenage children) at some point over the next few years, and probably, not more than a decade from now.

The thing is, which you seem incredibly willing to disregard, is that these patterns of behavior have repeated themselves across most of Europe. As migrant groups become established, living on the lowest rungs of society due to a lack of education and/or lack of employment, bitterness sets in, and we can see attacks made against the police, usually by the 2nd generation.

I doubt we'll see (intentional) attacks on off-duty police, simply because they won't be wearing their uniforms, as opposed to the military who often continue to wear their uniforms when off-duty.

Sure you never even read my post before you started tapping out a reply . Not for the first time either.

I never said it did currently (in an official capacity), diversity will almost certainly be one of the metrics used in the future.

However the creation of these new programs, and the scholarships / matriculation requirements bypass given to some minorities definitely will lower educational outcomes of these universities.

Is Helen or her new born child multicultural, what is the link to the thread topic?

Did you look into crystal ball to determine diversity is going to be used instead of mainly being based on research output?

No Eddie I read your rambling. But nothing in it seemed even on the same topic as university rankings. Which is why i suggested you have a read of how universities are usually ranked by these surveys rather than going off on a rant about refugees.

Robbie just have a look at the language and implied tone of your 3 in a row posts.

Rude to 3 different posters one after the other because they hold a different view than your own.

Really? You can't see the link between a weak justice minister signing off on legitimising thousands of illegal immigrants and the thread topic?

    Unfortunately.

Did you not already try to insult me today by labeling me a bully?
Several other directly insulting posts towards me today too from other posters on this thread
But now you're worried about tone.
    Honestly it's laughable stuff.

I haven't insulted you I haven't been rude but I think the idea that immigrant gangs are a big thteat in Ireland is so funny as to be stupid.

Wow. Do you have next week's lotto numbers?

Third level institutions have, thankfully, always looked to make access easy for people who cannot normally attend. Scholarships, access programs for mature and disabled persons, places for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. I can't imagine why you believe that giving more people access to 3rd level is a bad thing.
Terrible attitude. Education is vital for people to become self sufficient.

As long as they're here legitimately then no problem with that idea.

Diverting already scarce resources to support and indirectly encourage illegal immigration though is a very different thing, as is prioritising access and support for minorities over others.

Folks, you're being baited, and eventually one of you is going to say something that get's you banned from the thread.

Ignore him, or discuss other stuff. Don't give him the satisfaction of seeing you banned.

I doubt there are any universities in Ireland doing that.
They encourage persons to attend third level education, which can only be a good thing.

I think you recognize the mindset of those defending it which is why you are warning them to step back.

Asking someone to defend such a ridiculous statement is baiting now is it?
How do you think a discussion board should operate?

The manner in which the asking is done... is.

Not getting into this since it's completely irrelevant, and I also have no desire of being banned.

But there are fields where you need abilities, and none of those abilities is diversity and being from an unprivileged background.

It's telling the part of this you have an issue with.
Implying that having more minorities in universities will lessen their educational quality is not an issue, asking someone to defend this view is.

Why not report a post if you think it is inappropriate rather than warning others to be careful what they say.

African, arab, South American and non-east asian migrants show up , the left claim theres no issues and its a good thing, try and enact policies to get more in, becomes very clear that there are issues, we were promised doctors and engineers but all we get is dole lifers and criminals, the left tries to send all the migrant kids to university to once again shift the goalposts, that also fails due to lower educational attainment, so here we are now where programs are being designed and scolarships issued to keep illegal migrants in the country , railroad migrants up on to lecturing positions, create masters that teach people that the only reason migrants don't succeed is mythical opression from native Irish people etc...

all they need is a few doctors and engineers as grads and they can use them to shut down any debate which points out the glaring problems, dangers and costs that multiculturalism leads to in any EU state.

Threadbanned when you come back from your holiday for such outrageous statements

I had an issue with the manner of his posting. Still, as I've just been warned about backseat modding, I'll leave it to others to rise or ignore his efforts. I won't be commenting on that anymore, so you can stop pushing for a reaction from me.

As for things being "telling", I could throw that one right back at you.
Implying that having more minorities in universities will lessen their educational quality is not an issue, asking someone to defend this view is.

Depends on the logic behind the claim. If funding is taken away from existing programs to provide for migrants who may have extra demands/needs compared to others, (such as language difficulties, or trauma), then, it's very possible that the courses provided could drop in quality, therefore affecting their rankings. Since many universities in Ireland went through a period of debt financing for expansion of campuses, such reallocation of funding towards migrants could have a greater effect, due to tight budget considerations.

All could... I don't know the state of Irish universities enough to say anything with certainty. I've heard from friends who work in a few different institutions of issues with overcrowded classes, and limited facilities to provide the technical aspects of some courses. That being with their existing populations of students.

If you scroll back, you'll notice I didn't thank the posts about the universities, since I don't see it as an issue. I feel there are far more important issues with regards to immigration, and providing for migrants, than the effect on third level institutions.

    No, of course not.
Universities shouldn't care either way, they should only care about providing the best education possible. Any other goal means compromising on the main goal.

No, universities are about providing the best education for the benefit of society.
They can recognise that education opens doors that may be closed to some members of society. Equality is about equal opportunities, for all persons.
Giving opportunities to people to avail if education that they may not ordinarily have, is a good thing. It benefits everyone in society.
Why do you think there are maintenance grants available to people to attend college? That is to assist persons who cannot, financially, attend college.
Can you honestly say there is something wrong with that?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,967 ✭✭✭Cordell

No, there's nothing wrong with equal opportunities, quite the opposite, it's something good that generally is already present in Europe and in Ireland. But diversity is not equal opportunities, it's something different with a different name.
Equal opportunities is something normal, even mandatory by law, however, universities are bragging about diversity. Since when it became normal to brag about doing something normal?
So no, achieving diversity will not benefit neither society nor the education quality. And it will help no one.

    What about police?
An Garda Siochana are actively looking for ethnic minorities, how do you feel about that?

If the government wanted to stop these migration debates in their tracks and push back against building resentment all they have to do is to introduce appropriate rules as reassurance for the Irish people.

I think that's what many people want.

People coming in to this country to settle should have a verifiable job to begin before coming. Contributing should be the number one criteria above all else.

This should also be based on targeting skills the economy needs.

And we should have strict quotas every year on numbers.

And there is more than that but in the absence of such rules and enforcement we are fast heading the wrong direction with all sorts of societal and economic disturbances coming down the tracks.

The government needs to be able to offer assurances to the Irish people but what we have is the complete opposite. That's why the feeling out there is that this country is being mugged.
