Thankfully you're not coming across as even slightly hysterical - well done.

Wait you've spent months crying in the "Relax the Restrictions" thread about the "hardship" of the restrictions.....did you just forget your own whining?

Not hysterical in the slightest, covid can either kill or make you very ill. It’s infectious, highly. People because of this are worried, concerned and rightly so.

25,565 have been infected, 1743 have died, that’s just The Republic of Ireland.

Worldwide 12.3 million people have been infected. Around 555,000 people killed.

    Those numbers are incredibly skewed.

Way more were infected and not tested. It was near impossible to get a test at the height unless you were a healthcare worker or vulnerable.

On the other Hand as has been openly admitted from the start; our deaths have been recorded.
    a) when covid is not the cause of death (dying with it, not from it)
    b) when people have been suspected as having it despite not being tested or having tested negative.

I was ridiculed in another thread for saying that in Ireland George Floyd would have been recorded as a covid death but this tweet from leo confirms that as a fact.

I think that that is probably true in most of Europe. My understanding is that in the US it might be the opposite, as have been classifying deaths as pneumonia and not COVID. I remember seeing a story recently illustrating that pneumonia deaths are off the charts when compared to previous years while COVID deaths are remarkably low given the infection rate

Only Belgium has been reporting deaths by the same metric as Ireland.

Pat Kenny had Texan tourists on this morning saying the virus is a hoax.

Indeed, which is a big reason they had such a high mortality rate.

The excess deaths is as good as barometer as any and the fact ours were less than expected whereas other countries - the US obviously but not just there - were higher is a good example.

Is this why we're letting Americans in? Because it's all just a hoax. It's these people we have to be cautious about. It's all just a hoax and not take any precautionary measures to limit risk and pass it on to others.

They should fcuk off back and see if they'll get a ventilator and ring Pat Kenny gasping for their last breath and tell him then it's all a hoax.

Walking down the stairs can kill you, so can lots of other things you do every day without losing your **** over them - what's your point?

Counting end of life patients to whip up the hysteria.

9.1 million people die of starvation every year - where's the outcry over this?

Walking down the stairs can kill you if you slip. Let's ban all the stairs in the country!

Check any threads in which Greta Thunbergs name is mentioned to see what type of outcry there is associated with trying to protect the environment and as a consequence, food supply.

    It seems 80% of posters on those threads are crying out for one of the following reasons;
    • She's only a child who isn't even going to school.
    • No point doing anything while China and India are carrying on.
    • There's no way I should be expected to pay more tax.

Walking down the stairs can kill you, if you trip or slip. Youd be unlucky, careless or both.

Catching covid, either get ill, die and to be noted in a very small percentage of cases asymptomatic. Let’s not import trouble

    Wrong again.

You shouldn't be allowed to spread your hysterical lies and nonsense on this site in my view.

Well in that case they could appear asymptomatic but are actually presymptomatic when they test. Still I'm curious as to the number of genuine asymptomatic cases out there.

Newstalk had a segment earlier on PK and interviewed some of the passengers on the inbound US flights. Some were from Florida and Texas escaping the rising number of cases in those two States, some were coming to visit family and/or their holiday homes. All "said" they would quarantine for 14 days, but given that US holiday leave is at best 14 days per year, who knows?

So sign a form, that's the "quarantine" here

Yup end of life over estimates account for a third of the deaths

We ARE doing very well relatively
But that Does depend on us continuing to behave (social distancing, hand washing and cough sneeze etiquette etc)

It only takes one of those 16 to have the virus and start spreading it

One can spread it to zero as well. Having it doesn't necessarily mean you will spread it.

We can only influence and take care of what happens in our own country.

We don’t have the wealth and resources to sort everything and everyone out nor should we. We do however contribute.. as an example back in 2017...

The Irish Government allocated €651 million to official development assistance (ODA) in 2017, mainly focused on overseas aid to reduce poverty and hunger, and to improve education, healthcare and governance in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. The Irish Aid programme is an integral part of Ireland's foreign policy.

US visitors are banned from all bar 28 of the world's approx 200 countries due to Covid. We're one of the 28 still letting them in

Increasing sentiment and anger on Reddit Ireland (actually a pretty pleasant community) about this

Ah no he'll just blame the bars and restaurants instead while treating Irish people like children.
No common sense being considered at all.

Just implement the same list as the rest of Europe which means American citizens not resident in the EU are banned. Fairly simple stuff

Without amercans irish would be growing roosters all over again. Ban all americans !

It’s absolutely incredible they are still allowing in Americans and other countries where the virus is rampant in.

Like what do they expect when they see the infections rise?

Well keep away from them then

That’s absolutely ridiculous thinking. It’s not them you need to keep away from, it’s them and everyone who comes into contact with them and everyone who comes into contact with those, etc etc. You really don’t understand this do you? Or is it just another case where €€€ > lives?

It's the hotel workers, staff working at tourist sites that they visit, they are all at a risk. They can't keep away from them. They bring home the virus to their families then.
