That shows the roll out % but says nothing about the outcomes of the covid cases and the effect it has on them at present. Red Silurian's % may still apply.

'6% of cases wind up in hospital so 425
1.99% of cases will die so 147
20%-33% will suffer from long COVID so between 1479-2440'

Although all of the above should be lower thanks to vaccination[

oh my god. facepalm. I'm out. unfollowing this nonsense

Rubbish. UK has only 40% first doses and look what is he opening there. Outcomes were improving much faster than the SAGE modelling at a much lower % vaccinated

Dodgy numbers im afraid woody. They are pushing second jabs back to bump the primary numbers. The experts who designed the vaccines have come out against the 12 week delay as well. Stinks of 'brexit over the eu' to me.

They were also very slow to act and still have high numbers.

Do we have anywhere where we can see numbers of those who travelled in from the 33 countries now required to quarantine? Thanks

Don't see anything on it. Does it exist?

What is the reason the government delayed and resisted the hotel quarantining thing? The real reason. Does any know?
With these things usually there is an unspoken reason driving resistance and those in charge give decent sounding reasons that cover them, there's usually another reason. What was it?
Enforcement? How to handle those who won't cooperate?

Booking system for hotel quarantine is now online to take effect from Friday

    https://www.quarantinehotelsireland.ie/

Too little too late in my own opinion, what do others think?

Why is it a 12 night stay? Shouldn't it be 14?

Irish political logic, 12 days in a hotel is the same as 14 in a house

Odd. Day 14 you can leave so don't need a night but that's 13. 🀔

They also seem to be giving them two tests during their stay as well. That's all good except what about a test after their stay at the hotel. I think New Zealand tests them 5 days after getting out of quarantine in case they picked anything up during their stay. What about here?

I think that's a private company and not a government site.

    A sad day for Ireland

Cannot believe what I'm hearing on the radio this morning.

Escorted by the defences forces to a facility

These people have negative Covid tests

    A shameful day

A negative test means very little. You're only negative the day the test was taken. You can get infected any time between the test and the flight or on the flight itself.

Because we're working in tandem with the UK who have only recently introduced the same system. We have to work in tandem to maintain open border between us.

Funny reading back on the thread and people thought this was impossible. Now it's happening and it's about a year too late...

I would also love to see this contract. No doubt it's going to screw the tax payer whilst the hotel chain keeps all the profits.

Happening to a random list of 33 countries. It's optics.

Jeez, when the defence forces aren't used, they are a waste of money. When they are used, it's oppression.

Presumable you wont be happy until it's for all passengers regardless of where or why?

Does anyone know what would be the nature of the govt contract with the hotel group?
I assume the hotel gets all of the per-individual €2,000 revenue.
But would there also need to be either an up front once off payment or the govt to underwrite any shortfall in expected daily revenues?

It's pretty much identical to the UK red list

On Irish list but not on UK list: Austria

On UK list but not on Irish list: Oman, Qatar and Somalia

A list to make it look like they are doing something. To calm the public down because they are blaming the boogie man of travel.
Why are USA, Czechia, Poland, Russia etc not on the list? Loads of cases there.

No direct flights between Ireland and Oman, Qatar and Somalia... Austria to be added to UK list before too long I'd wager money on it

Why? Austria is no worse than a load of other countries.

Yes it is half arsed. I would have preferred to go down the zero covid route and put everyone in quarantine coming into the UK and Ireland. We could have enjoyed a good lifestyle within our borders like New Zealand has.

It appears to be related to variants of concern rather than case numbers so even more vague

The inclusion of Austria being so bizarre, they had some SA variants about 2 months ago around Tyrol but were stamped out , they’ve had no more variants of concern than the U.K. for example

It’s a metric less mess and I’d be surprised if they have anybody in those hotels apart from a few Brazilian or South Africans who get caught out and have passport stamped etc but most have dual passports so will just not use the one stamped departing or heir origin
