Then they should be deported. People should be willing to follow the law on entry. These aren't normal times.

Perhaps slightly different circumstances for state business :pac:

Otherwise people shouldn't travel for non-essential reasons and should isolate.

It's more a loss to them than it is to me as I am quite a good cook!

Ireland has such a small population that I seriously wonder why anyone with half a brain would want to drive away legal residents who pay tax. That is the net effect of your attitude and thank goodness it is the minority.

By your logic, it was no loss when your countrywoman Sinead was rejected a job in Australia because she was Irish.

Thank you for helping to subsidize the welfare state, I am doing the same in the US, though thankfully the tax is less. Perhaps this will all end with a prisoner exchange after both countries become incensed with xenophobic fear. I'll see you on the runway in Shannon.

This is a local country for local people. We’ll have no trouble here....

We need to stop US travelers coming ...or make them quarantine.

I mean they are not coming here for 5 weeks isolating for two. They are coming for 2/3 weeks and not bothering.

Our HSE staff are risking their lives. People have died here alone. People have not been able to go to funerals. Men have missed the birth of their children.

And i have had to do my own hair.

So i hope you are joking.

I tell you what when we go back to stage 2 again ....people will not be thinking like gral.

That was mostly for Europe and because countries were shutting down. Many of those countries have now opened up. They did run a number or mercy missions from more far-flung places.

Some 4,000 people arrived at Dublin airport each day last week

Yeah no its a serious issue.

If this were people from China or Italy there would be uproar. But its privileged white Americans. So Ivan Yates is defending them.

When its back to phase two in two weeks time and you can't leave your house people will be livid. FF will get the blame as well.

Anyway, America is a high risk country. So we should ban them just like very other.

The internet is a great place to find things that agree with you! I've no idea if he is. I can't see why he would but he's going to get grief from some quarters regardless because the island hasn't become a prison. Looking forward to the Green list myself, feel a need for a trip!

You won't be going anywhere. We will be back in lockdown in a week. I would money on it.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/14/world/europe/Ireland-americans-break-quarantine.html

I suppose the NY times is lying too.

I suppose i didn't see hundreds of Americans in town. I suppose my mother didn't see them either.

Remember the whole thing that started this was an Italian traveler.

And if we let in non green list countries ...guess what ..other countries will catch on and stop letting US in.

You will book and then moan about not getting a refund when its cancelled.

Eh OK. I just told you what he said. The rest of this looks like keep the unclean out. Most of our cases are homegrown behaviour. BTW you do know the Green list just means no need for 14 days isolation? You can still get into the country from majority of places anyway.

    Yes I know.
There is going to be a second wave. Everyone was raving at ryan air when they couldn't get refunded. So you know the risks of booking travel now.

You are taking those risks upon yourself.
IF you need a refund ...don't expect one.

Does it matter. One or two carriers could infect thousands. They couldn't give a ****e about their own country, so they definitely don't care about this one or its citizens

Its not just the isolation thing ...they have brought the same attitude from home here.

    They are not wearing masks.

    They are not social distancing.

I was in a book shop ....this woman took for ages to talk to the woman ...yet bought nothing ...but just seemed to want to talk...wasn't wearing a mask ...touched so many books bought none. She had this attitude of its all about me. She wanted all the attention .she was going to do what she wanted. The sales woman was wearing a mask and behind a screen. It was actually weird ...she made the sales assistant come out from behind the screen ..but in the end bought nothing. I was kind of wondering why she bothered?

    No mask no gloves nothing.

    I bought everything i touched. And i had gloves...and a mask.

    Its not right.

    ANd yes she was american.

The thing is, we shouldn't need to get to the stage of personalising this. It is possible that many of these tourists do in fact care about Ireland and have received poor messaging about coming to Ireland.

The government should deal with this at the highest level to simply say that at the moment we need to close our borders to America in both directions. You need to come back by this date if you plan on returning to Ireland, following that travel will be banned until the infection rate stabilises and coronavirus is no longer prevalent. The UK should do this also actually.

We don't need to focus on how much or how little Americans care about Ireland. That is irrelevant. What is relevant is the virus is prevalent there.

I wouldn't even leave the opportunity for quarantining open in this case.

    American chiming back in here.

Look, I'm cool with restaurants (ie private establishments) restricting access in the name of health. As it happens, I am also a medical student, so I understand fully that a virus transmits indiscriminately, and that this move isn't just disguised xenophobia. But when the restaurants claim they are not letting Americans in, they need to also state that Americans who live in Ireland are allowed. They need to be even more welcoming to local resident Americans like myself, otherwise I will feel like a pariah in their establishment for simply having an out-of-vogue accent. No businessperson would want a local to feel unwelcome. After they state that locals of all nationalities are welcome, they can suggest a way we can prove it discreetly.

There are certainly flaws with my suggestion here but a blanket ban on what boils down to a person having a certain accent is appalling.

I have already asked my Irish boyfriend to do the talking for me in restaurants after reading all this BS on the internet.

The problem is that this attitude is forming in people because the Irish government haven't taken the correct action which is simply to ban travel from the US.

Vigilante nonsense from businesses is discrimination and they should be taken to task for it. I would support anyone in suing businesses if this is the response from a business.

    Yeah ..i guess.

This woman DID seem odd now that i think of it. I dunno something was just ...off with her.

    Maybe i am being prejudiced.

It was just strange how she wasted so much time on a really peculiarly specific language book ...yet didn't buy it. I mean it is the type of thing you know you want or don't. And how she was flouting pandemic rules for no reason. I mean she had no reason to be there. Most people are avoiding shops...i mean we are not going in to browse!

Maybe i am just judgy. My gut said something was off with her.

as far as I know they asked if they had flown in recently and if they had self isolated for 14 days. when they said they hadn't self isolated they sent them on their way. so I hope they woul accept when you tell them you live here.

Please you know if you are white and American you are privileged here. There is no xenophobia. As a doctor you should know these Travellers are putting us at great risk...you should be very angry about that.

I am getting annoyed with Americans getting upset because we are defending our country. You should be just as angry if you live here because you are just as much at risk. We are defending YOU too.

In fact if it were any other country there would be a ban. There NEEDS to be a ban. Your country has banned us from entering i remind you. You don't hear Irish people in the states complaining they are being victimized or in the UK.

And if it were a ban it would be certain all the Americans are living here.

People are dying of covid here still.

And if you are as angry as I with these people. I don't actually want you here.

If businesses are saying "you are American, and you can't eat here", that is xenophobic crap to be fair. Businesses have no place discriminating people, and people should take legal action if this is the response from them.

The government needs to stop inward travel from the US. That is where energy should be focussed.

I presume they are asking people if they've isolated and having the attitude they have are met with why would we need to. They are informed on the plane of the need to quarantine
