There's a flight coming into Dublin airport tomorrow morning from Dallas.

There's also flights from Boston, New York and Chicago as well.

Seriously, why are they allowing these flights to come in?

Read it again, majority of cases are under 25 of age, not nursing homes.

    Quote from prof glynn:
"All of the 23 new cases of Covid-19 that were reported yesterday occurred in people aged under 44, and 77% involved people under the age of 25. "

    This is the worrying stat

Why is this the worrying stat?

Do you think people under 25 weren't always getting it?

Of course they were, they just didn't notice it or didn't qualify for getting a test.
Now they are being identified with their contacts.

This is a positive stat, especially as it won't do them most harm (mostly).

Texas had a record 10,000 cases yesterday, forced airport testing mandatory quarantine near the airport or ban US flights, seriously our government need to do something

The flights are literally empty. There’s photos all over plane spotting Facebook groups of people on board with maybe 6/7 other people.

    It's heartbreaking to see this.
I feel nothing but fear for the next few months now.
I was hoping to support Irish and do a few days in an Irish hotel or B&B, as I obviously won't be going abroad this year, but given this news, I'm not even going to chance that.

Not really sure why it’s not hitting home for some that we must in fact learn to live with this

6 or 7 people who'll sign a form then fcek off anywhere in Ireland untested

Trump bans Irish flying in there but we can't do the same here

We're not the only country that has flights landing from the US just so your aware. All over Europe flights to and from the US are running, only difference is American citizens that don't live in a European country wont get in. Here they will with the 14 day isolation. EU citizens and those resident in EU countries are perfectly entitled to be on board those flights.

Been noted here before but I'll say it again. Your bog standard passenger flight has always and continues to also carry cargo to and from both countries. The cargo element is what keeps this flights going. For example a recent EI flight form Boston I know for a fact had only 6 passengers on it, nobody flying with anyone, 6 individual passengers, there was more crew than passengers. Only reason it was still flying was cargo being delivered.

The narrative that these flights are full to the brim with tourists isn't exactly playing out in reality

Hmmm.. OK. Remember all the naysayers who spoke up over Italian rugby supporters coming here in March? I guess they were hysterical too.
And I guess you also don't work in front line medical care and are not dreading the prospect of a second spike and the hell and hardship that brings?

Why is it so wrong to worry about a second wave, case increases, it started with travel, imported cases

It started with uncontrolled community transmission in a country where COVID test wasn’t even in most people’s lexicon

Newstalk had a segment earlier on PK and interviewed some of the passengers on the inbound US flights. Some were from Florida and Texas escaping the rising number of cases in those two States, some were coming to visit family and/or their holiday homes. All "said" they would quarantine for 14 days, but given that US holiday leave is at best 14 days per year, who knows?

Not hysterical in the slightest, covid can either kill or make you very ill. It’s infectious, highly. People because of this are worried, concerned and rightly so.

25,565 have been infected, 1743 have died, that’s just The Republic of Ireland.

Worldwide 12.3 million people have been infected. Around 555,000 people killed.

    Those numbers are incredibly skewed.

Way more were infected and not tested. It was near impossible to get a test at the height unless you were a healthcare worker or vulnerable.

On the other Hand as has been openly admitted from the start; our deaths have been recorded.
    a) when covid is not the cause of death (dying with it, not from it)
    b) when people have been suspected as having it despite not being tested or having tested negative.

I was ridiculed in another thread for saying that in Ireland George Floyd would have been recorded as a covid death but this tweet from leo confirms that as a fact.

I think that that is probably true in most of Europe. My understanding is that in the US it might be the opposite, as have been classifying deaths as pneumonia and not COVID. I remember seeing a story recently illustrating that pneumonia deaths are off the charts when compared to previous years while COVID deaths are remarkably low given the infection rate

Only Belgium has been reporting deaths by the same metric as Ireland.

Indeed, which is a big reason they had such a high mortality rate.

The excess deaths is as good as barometer as any and the fact ours were less than expected whereas other countries - the US obviously but not just there - were higher is a good example.

Is this why we're letting Americans in? Because it's all just a hoax. It's these people we have to be cautious about. It's all just a hoax and not take any precautionary measures to limit risk and pass it on to others.

They should fcuk off back and see if they'll get a ventilator and ring Pat Kenny gasping for their last breath and tell him then it's all a hoax.

9.1 million people die of starvation every year - where's the outcry over this?

Check any threads in which Greta Thunbergs name is mentioned to see what type of outcry there is associated with trying to protect the environment and as a consequence, food supply.

    It seems 80% of posters on those threads are crying out for one of the following reasons;
    • She's only a child who isn't even going to school.
    • No point doing anything while China and India are carrying on.
    • There's no way I should be expected to pay more tax.

Walking down the stairs can kill you, if you trip or slip. Youd be unlucky, careless or both.

Catching covid, either get ill, die and to be noted in a very small percentage of cases asymptomatic. Let’s not import trouble

Well in that case they could appear asymptomatic but are actually presymptomatic when they test. Still I'm curious as to the number of genuine asymptomatic cases out there.

We can only influence and take care of what happens in our own country.

We don’t have the wealth and resources to sort everything and everyone out nor should we. We do however contribute.. as an example back in 2017...

The Irish Government allocated €651 million to official development assistance (ODA) in 2017, mainly focused on overseas aid to reduce poverty and hunger, and to improve education, healthcare and governance in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. The Irish Aid programme is an integral part of Ireland's foreign policy.

Ah no he'll just blame the bars and restaurants instead while treating Irish people like children.
No common sense being considered at all.

Just implement the same list as the rest of Europe which means American citizens not resident in the EU are banned. Fairly simple stuff

That’s absolutely ridiculous thinking. It’s not them you need to keep away from, it’s them and everyone who comes into contact with them and everyone who comes into contact with those, etc etc. You really don’t understand this do you? Or is it just another case where €€€ > lives?
