Theres a good possibility it's a vested interest, whether that's pressure from big multinationals or whatever, there also could be a misguided concept that we cant upset our european standing. Then theres always the possibility of pride, they just dont want admit they got it dreadfully wrong, and their strategy caused thousands of unnecessary deaths, as well as destroyed peoples lives.

Whatever the reasons, the publics best interest is not one of them.

Thats possibly the motivation of the people in power, Martin etc they have a vested interest in keeping the airports open.

What I dont get is the motivation of the people who enthusiastically endorse the policy, while screaming out for maximum restrictions everywhere else.

Covid negative people who have the right to travel to Ireland and arrived by legal means shouldn't be thrown in confinement.
Why are you pushing for that if you aren't locking up covid positive people?

Who really should be travelling during a pandemic, the types that can't be trusted to self isolate so fcuk them in a hotel for 2 week at top dollar. All these strains have 1 thing in common all brought in from abroad via airline or boat, fact.

A lot of them are the people who keep the price of your meat down.

Working for a pittance for Goodman, doing a job that most Irish wouldn't do.

then let the likes of larry pay for their quarantine, ensure they have suitable accomadation to stay in when they are in work, you know the basics and larry can well afford it

The vast majority of the public - 90 percent in a recent poll - are in favour of hotel quarantine. That 10 percent that dont are other people with a vested interest, and then the yellow vest lunatics, conspiracy crazies, and contrarian trolls u see on here.

I have yet to read a rational and reasonable argument agaisnt hotel quarantine from a sane person.

There are countless valid reasons why people travel. But sure don't bother looking closer to home, the "all in this together" never truly existed in Ireland.

The Irish Authorities are to blame for this.

    Predictable yes, avoidable how?

Because it's nonsense and a waste of money.
The virus is everywhere. All that works is people following rules, but people are fed up and need someone to blame.
They got their relaxed rules at Christmas and fuxked up.
So now it's easy to blame the small amount of travellers rather than your sister/neighbour/hairdresser(who is now making housecalls and infecting 10 gafs per day).

Maybe stop granting new work permits to Brazilians to move here to work in meat factories?

I am sure an Irish minority would love to get out of the dole and replace them on the plants.

Is there any truth to AGS doing 5KM checks at motorway tolls while you're
    stopped ???

    None at all.
It's a scam by eToll to get you to sign up for a tag.

A blanket ban on any arrivals from Brazil, regardless of what countries those travelers have transited through.

In all likelihood it would still get in but at least it would buy time.

Leaving inward travel restrictions so lax is throwing sand into the eyes of those of us having to endure months of lockdown.

I think you just have to accept the govt has said we cant keep our borders locked down We are going to get people bringing it in to Ireland and there is nothing we can do about it if that is what has been decided economically. People will go on holiday and bring it back. That cant be stopped People are inherently selfish and if they feel it is no threat to them or theirs they wont care about anyone else. People with money will demand openings despite risk and that will happen bcos of greed Unfortunately its a selfish world and poor and vunerable people will die until there is a vaccine.

A part of me relucantly accepts that we can't keep our borders closed but then I ask 'why can't we'

If I can't travel over 5Km, why should people from outside the country have free reign to travel after they arrive?

That might sound a little childish but the government really need to plug the holes or else this is just going to continue without respite.

They're all equally to blame. The virus didn't come here by itself

Doesn't the 5k rule apply to everyone after they arrive and are present in the country or is there an exemption for air passengers??

Eh so you have no right to leave Ireland for another country?
And if I have the correct visa requirements for Ireland and all the necessary documents immigration can't just turn me away.

Not sure what is unclear here.

we had these last year and we still had yanks eating out, visiting everywhere unimpeded by the gardai. Should have barred travel from the US 12 months ago but then leo would not risk his paddys day visit same for mm but joe fcuked up that for him

No proper controls are possible with the twanks in government here or the EU.It's all about the next election and keeping votes/vested interests on their side.

Professor Jack Lambert, infectious diseases specialist. Again highlighting actual infection from travel

    https://twitter.com/jlamber55605930/status/1363202767234469893?s=21

How many weeks of level 5 lockdown has there been? Why is there still 1000 cases a day? It’s not from travel....

*awaits the typical “it didn’t arrive here by carrier pigeon” replies*

Does not make any sense. A country that borders other 10 countries with more than 16.000 km of borders and a population of 210.000.000 would had the strain spread on other countries in no time no matter what effort to be done.

It's behind a paywall, but the headline says it all

Half of air travellers to State in January came for ‘non-essential’ reasons

We can't meet friends 6 Km away for an outdoor stroll in a park using social distancing

    But yet this shíte continues
