Sure you could have covid unbeknownst to you. Best stay indoors for the foreseeable and limit your contact with people to ZERO if that's your mindset. Otherwise you're a hypocrite.

If we all did that for 2 weeks we'd be at zero COVID by now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 670 ✭✭✭fm

Not in every case but there should be a reduction in them alright, remember a covid test is only as good as the day in which it's taken... Nothing to stop COVID being caught in the time between the test and the flight or even catching it on the flight

Yes, there is risk still, but it reduces the risk hugely, a lot of unlucky people needed to catch it just after their test before they fly.

Yes, PCR tests taken up to midnight the night before are reported around 6pm the day after... What's your point?

The golden standard in testing for covid except when NPHET want to talk travel

4 weeks to give it time to circulate around a household.

You’re talking 6 weeks of complete and utter shutdown, Spain March 2020 style, while it circulates around households. And that doesn’t take into account the fact that there still be essential workers moving about so more time to take some infection from them into account.

So two months at a minimum before suppression. Of not leaving your home even for exercise

    Sounds fun

Correction, 1 person would need to catch it after their test before they fly, that one person would bring it in and spread it - as has been happening since last march

Doesn't sound much like fun to me but the end result would be plenty of fun

    Newsflash! It's. Already. Here.

Until it would get back in again via the north or via freight. And given our backward test and trace system, that one case that got in would spread to the mother and down the road to the girlfriend and on to her family and on and on. How you guys seriously think we can now plug all holes a year on and people seriously fatigued!

    But do dream on!

1 or 2 cases coming in via freight or the North Vs 500-600 daily new cases that we have at the moment, it's easier to manage one than the other

That's great news that negative PCR gives you immunity from catching it during the journey. Any link for that? I mean we've seen evidence that you can catch it on a flight. Would be great to see similar evidence that negative PCR test prior to travel protects you before / during travel.

From your posts you seem to think that a PCR test prior to travel prevents you from bringing in covid and spreading it?

For that to be true the gold standard PCR test would have to confer some sort of immunity during the trip.

I'm asking if you have any evidence of this otherwise a negative PCR is just a snapshot in time and won't really prevent importation of the next 2.0 variant.

edit: I don't wear glasses thanks for your concern though. That's a great reply though.:pac:

Please isolate yourself from the rest of humanity for the next few weeks, there's a risk you'll spread whatever it is you have to others.

I believe that's the point of quarantine and what they will probably say to people as they go into quarantine.

Don't be so negative. Enjoy the sights of your 5km until the numbers come down.

Some people just see the glass as half empty.

A 5km radius gives you 78 square kilometers outiside to enjoy.

Lockdown will end soon enough. Until the roll out is done stay put. Simple really.

There's much less chance of getting it that way than from the maskless idiots in your local shop.

Yes, we need to stop it coming in and stop it spreading because doing one without the other results in prolonged Lockdowns

Remember all the other spikes pre UK variant? That's right, covid, "the original", spread just fine and would have flourished just dandy when the whole country went socialising crazy for two or three weeks.

Flights had fvck all to do with that surge.
