Whistling windows

Moving into a second hand house very close to the Atlantic. Dbl glazed windows are about 10yrs old. When in the house today one of the front windows was whistling loudly. The wind was coming from a different direction than we had experienced in the house before. I had all the hinges replaced and all windows draught striped a few weeks back. It seems to be the trickle vent. It’s a young child’s bedroom so want to rectify the problem.

    Any suggestions?

Had the same issue some time back and it was holes in the silicone sealer, which seals the seams on the outside of the window. It had just degraded over time. I removed all the silicone and replaced it and no further whistling.

May not be the same with yours but worth checking it out.

As above . Also linked is sometimes the ptotective tape around the edges is not fully removed and that can bang out a tune for you, also small gaps between the reveal (plaster) and window can cause this.
Sealing all-round the edges fills any gaps.

Thanks. It seems to be limited to the trickle vent. I will clean it down and apply a bead of silicone where the vent meets the window.

Another question. The previous owner used duct tape to "close" the windows with broken hinges. Extremely hard to get the tape adhesive off the windows. Any advice?

White spirits is usually good at removed glue residue from tape, apply with microfibre or similar cloth which enables scrubbing without damaging the glass/frame.
