Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I go with Wellington Phoenix.

  • Registered Users Posts: 258 ✭✭Hill St Blue

Wellington for me too. Not a fan of the 'How To Train Your Dragon' cartoonish look of d'other one.

Al Wehda takes the final berth!

We are now down to 16 from a whopping 128 entrants. We'll kick things off fresh tomorrow with the Third Knockout Round. Until then, stay safe y'all.

The Round of 16 will begin tonight at around 20:30 folks, hope to see you all then.

Macker, I'll be on the sauce at that stage, can you pop a vote in for me for Valencia? Reason...it's the best crest in the competition.

Ordinarily I’d say no. On this occasion, however, I’ll still say no.

Maybe though, since you called me Macker and all

Welcome to the Third Knockout Round. We have 16 teams left at this point. An amazing statistic here given the subtitle of this tournament... We have an exact 50:50 split between Europe and the Rest of the World! Couldn't be more finely balanced really. Asia is definitely the suprise package with a whopping six entrants at this stage. Russia boasts two for UEFA... in fact, Moscow does that all on its own. Mexico and Brazil are the solo reps for North and South America respectively.

I'm going throw a few ideas out to the floor here given how the numbers have fallen. We'll go within the hour one way or the other but you choose an option of how you think it should go.

OPTION A - Open draw until the end. Anyone can meet anyone all the way through.

OPTION B - Bracketed draw. 8 Europe v ROW bouts in this round, pot luck after that.

OPTION C - Split draw. Guarantees a Europe v Rest of the World final.

I'm happy with any but the split draw seems very cool.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,265 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

Don't see the need for C.

I'm ok with A really. Wouldn't give out too much if it were B.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,445 ✭✭✭davetherave

A or B, probably A. Everybody up against everybody and may the best logo win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,774 ✭✭✭eire4

Open draw at this stage seems fine to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Ok, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Open draw remains. Stay tuned, out first bout is coming up momentarily...

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,336 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Option A for me, the best will prevail

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Ok we are getting into the no pretenders, just contenders section of the competition. Simply select your favorite crest and tell us why you like it. In this round, a team will need 6 votes to progress. In the event that the quota isn't reached, the leading team after 30 minutes will advance. If there's a draw after the time expires, reasons given for choices will be considered for tie-breakers.

CSKA. Gloriously Soviet. You want to stand up and salute it as it runs rockets out onto the pitch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,090 ✭✭✭wrestlemaniac

Roma for me. Just too much going on in the CSKA one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

Roma for me. I dont speak Russian.

    Roma, a legendary crest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

What a ride. Roma led 2-1. CSKA clawed it back and went ahead 3-2. Roma equalized and then Baggly's last minute winner clinched it for a the Italians.

Roma advance to the quarter finals

Very close match here, but Valencia get my vote. One of the most recognisable crests in world football, and it’s just class tbh.

The elephant is great, but Valencia's is a bit special so it gets my vote. They also sacked their manager today, so they need something to cheer them up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 258 ✭✭Hill St Blue

I like both of 'em tbh, but I've voted for Chiamgmai the whole way through, so I'll stick to my guns. I love the colours and the elephant is great.

If they rehire Gary Neville, I officially rescind any votes I’ve given them. :pac:

Chiang Mai. Elephants are imminently better than bats. Also I ordered the Chiang Mai jersey so I'm sticking with them till the end now.

That seems pretty reasonable. Maybe they'll give Phil the job now, he's packing in the England Women's team in a year anyway.

Changmai is probably the better crest. The bat is grand and all but not much else happening there.

    Changmai.

I do love that but have to vote Valencia, it's just class

I got the away one in blue, I couldn't bring it on myself to buy the pink one and didn't like the home one :D

So you think they should Phil the position with another Neville?

    ....

    I’ll be off now.

Hello 2 D Person Below requested a vote and I said I'd oblige.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

Someone swap off Valencia. Come on now lads we have all had our fun but changmai is better.

    Chiangmai

The elephant is nicer and more intricately designed. The Valencia bat may as well just be a black border around an otherwise unremarkable crest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

    Ok so it's a 3-3 result... but that's strictly on a technicality.

I honoured my word and told H 2D PB I'd include their vote and I have. However, a postal vote isn't gonna be enough in a tie breaker situations. All the votes cast at the time of asking have to be considered to be priority. It's akin to an away goals situation as far as value is concerned. So with that in mind...

Chiangmai United advance to the quarter finals

    Al Wehda

    Minsk

I love the death stare of that crow. Also the Al Wehda one just looks like a chess knight that's on fire - the flames are kinda tacky.
