Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Probably too late but I'd go for Persebaya, simply because I've voted against Juarez each time and it keeps progressing. (I don't even particularly dislike it, just always seem to prefer what it's up against!)

Even taking the votes after the bell into accounts, it's a stalemate. Let's disect the reasons given within the alotted time.

FC Juarez - the weird watery yokes have had a good run, but they're up against some serious class now

References the crest. Prefers class over weirdness. 1-0 Juarez

Juarez is a city run by drug cartels with a high rate of feminicide.

    Vote Persebaya.

Doesn't reference the crest. Points raised are fair though. Will award half a point for the lols. 1-0.5 Juarez
Persebaya is good, but the nightmare horse of Juarez is magnificent.

    Go Juarez

Specifically likes the nightmarish quality of the animal. 2-0.5 Juarez.
    Yeah, but psychedelic horsey!

Juarez for me, though don't love either really

Admits they're not mad into it but does describe it. Half a point. 2.5-0.5 Juarez

    Alpha predators collide

Enjoys the animal warfare. 2.5-1.5 Juarez
    Persepaya.

    No reason given.

    Going on reasons provided...

FC Juarez advance to the quarter finals

It's amazing Omackeral finds the time to run these competitions and still manage his day job as Chief Justice of the Irish Supreme Court!

Kerala Blasters. James David belatedly found his level, and Robbie Keane's dream was cruelly denied when he joined his other dream club ATK.

Hmm, I'll go for Torpedo Moscow.

Admittedly I liked it more when I thought the car was a warhead. :o But I'll still give it the nod because there's already a superior elephant (Chiangmai) in contention. Also the two similar but different shades of blue on Kerala Blasters crest is a bit of a visual oddity, and not a particularly pleasing one - they should have either stuck to one colour or else used two more clearly contrasting colours.

It's a hard thing to vote against Kerala Blasters but that is what I must do to ensure the wacky wonder of Torpedo progresses.

It's like Archer meets The Prisoner and I love it.

Torpedo Moscow - look how the car is shaped........like a torpedo! Damn clever these Russkies.

Didn't realise we had to give reasons this round. Was working and blindsided by early start.

    This round:
    Torpedo
    Reason
Hopes it blows the ones I didn't want to get through to hell.

Reasons haven't been mandatory in this at all but are used as tie-breakers in the event of a draw, as per the last match.

Kerala's is a bit plain, and not the best elephant.

And I like a bit of black and white, so Torpedo gets the vote

I got the red one, hoping the quality is decent :)

Anyone else have a game called Hill Climb Racing on their phone? I do - no idea why - but the Torpedo crest looks kinda like the car from the Ragnarok level. Which makes a very random crest.

So I'll vote Torpedo. (I hope it's a draw so I can see how many points my reason is worth :) )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,495 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

I’ve only just noticed that the Torpedo Moscow crest is depicting a man driving a torpedo-shaped car, which reminds me of the rocket car from the Simpsons.

    So I’m voting for Torpedo.

Torpedo blasts the Blasters and advance to quarter finals.

Our last quarter final is up now, cast your votes.

Amiens for me - cool mythicals, cool colours, cool font

The goat has gone far enough

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,028 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

Amiens because they deserve some sort of win after their relegation

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,336 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Pretty indifferent to both tbh, probably the weakest tie of the round. 1.FC Koln just shades it because of the goat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,478 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

The Koln crest in red is nice and simple, but covers the city well with the cathedral. Then the goat mounting it is a bit of fun

The Amiens one is just all over the place. They need to simplify!

    Vote Koln

Amiens needs a bit of colour so I am going with Koln

  • Registered Users Posts: 258 ✭✭Hill St Blue

FC Koln for me. I like the colours and the goat has that 'I'm up to something' look in his eye.

2 unicorns beats 1 goat for me I go with Amiens.

Giant billy goat wins this with ease, and I’ve just explained why.

Amiens for me. I just don't get the goat to be honest

Aw, both Kashima and Persebaya gone overnight. I'd have had them through. Especially Kashima. I think it's my favourite of the tournament.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

We are now at the quarter final stage. Some numbers for you to consider. Europe has got the upper hand now with 62.5% of the field while the Rest of the World entrants all hail from seperate confederations, namely CONCACAF (N. America), CONMEBOL (S. America) and AFC (Asia). An interesting note is that we have 3 nations of the former Soviet Union in the final 8. It's still anyone's guess as to who could win it all but right now get yourselves ready for the first quarter final, it's coming up next...

For the quarter final, reasons for your choice are strongly encouraged as it's the proper business end of the contest. A team will progress if they obtain 7 votes. There is a time limit of 45 minutes at this stage. In the event of the time expiring, the leading team advances. If there is a draw, reasons will be taken into account for the purpose of a tie-breaker.

    Chiang Mai.

I nominated Roma but I'm sticking with the elephant crest till the end here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

    Well ****.

I like both of these, but i suppose ill go for Changmai as the colour combination is deadly, the detailing is deadly and the elephant itself is really well designed.

I also like it doesnt have a (TM) mark.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,265 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

I've never really felt the love for that elephant to be honest. The trunk is like one of those paper cut-outs from primary school, the red swirly things are weird and dammit, the year is wrong (it's 2563 in Thailand - that club is not 546 years old)

So Roma for respecting tradition far better.

    Voting for Chiangmai

The elephant is pretty, the colours work well and the exaggerated nipples on Roma's wolf-with-head-of-a-rhino just look silly to me.

Chiangmai - Elephants beat Diddy Wolves every day of the week. Twice on Sundays

    Roma I Giallorossi
I love the colours, they look majestic.
The symbolism of the birth of the city.
It's iconic...you could never confuse it with another club crest.
Also Totti..... for obvious reasons. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,478 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

    Chiangmai United

Very fine margins here, both are great. But the wolf's face on the Roma crest isn't very well drawn. The colour scheme and the Elephant's evil eyes on the Chiangmai United crest are both awesome

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,336 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Chiangmai United - I've never liked the Roma crest, I think it's pretty ugly, and I've been surprised by the love for it in this competition. I'd prefer if the Chiangmai crest wasn't predominantly black, but it's still the more aesthetically pleasing of the two imo.

Roma because Romulus and Remus history.

One of my favourites despite the colour scheme
