I'm retiring at 37 due to Covid-19

There is zero chance I'll ever get a job due to this virus, so I've decided to call it a day and retire.

It's a bit on the early side, but I don't see any alternative.

Has anyone else retired at my age? Any advice would be appreciated.

Will you be retired or unemployed?
    Big difference.

One of the prerequisites to qualify for early retirement is having a job.

What is the difference really? Both situations = not working.

    This is my take.

You're retired at 37 if you can live financially independently without state support.

If you're relying on state support to get by, you're unemployed or on disability.

Can't be considered retired and relying on the state to bank roll you till you're 66 imo.

That's my take anyway, there's a good chunk of society in this country that think differently and are living as such obviously

I think you need to be a bit clearer OP - what do you mean by retire? Are you financially independent?

A bit more information might be helpful.

Is it because of personal or industry circumstances you don’t ever see yourself working again?
What industry were you working in?
Is there a reason you can’t retrain?
    Are you financially independent?
    Do you have dependents?

I obviously don't have enough funds and will certainly need state support.

If the govt. can afford to pay Apple's legal bills, they can sure as hell afford to throw me a few quid to survive.

I have no kids so that's a big bonus.

Good on ya! Plenty of people retire in this country once they finish school.

You and your like are what's wrong with this country.
It isn't the Government who will be "throwing you a few quid", it's eejits like me going to work each day.
The entitlement you display is sickening.

It's funny that you pick on me but not the bankers who got billions and Apple getting state aid and their legal fees paid.

You got one thing right: you most certainly are an eejit.

You could maybe get a job working from home?
I don't think you can just decide to retire....you are seemingly deciding to go on the dole

You are also paying for the banks and Apple. But you don't complain about that. Funny.:o

Yeh so the banks being scumbags makes it OK for you to be one too. Lucky you don't have kids, the apples wouldn't fall far from the tree and we have enough of your like already.

Could you list some companies that offer remote working please? I haven't come across any.

You do know that the billions that the bank were paid were used to guarantee the deposits of normal people. Bankers didn't walk away with billions of euro to their name.

    You're just feeding it lads.

Exactly why I'm retiring. I've had enough of the charade.

I'm not, but what I said is a fact. If the banks were let to fail, everyone would have lost their money.

Retire does not equate to unemployed.

If I moo and wear black and white, this does not make me a cow.

It massively increased the tax burden and destroyed working conditions. One of the reasons why I'm retiring. Indefensible!

Apple, since you keep harping on about them. Oracle, Facebook, AWS/Amazon, Google, Ericsson, Merrill Lynch, CITI, Gartners to name a few.

Exactly why I'm retiring. I've had enough of the charade.

It's because you have no skills. And you just blame the government and the bankers.
Maybe educate yourself or do some training courses?
There are loads of things you could do, but you won't admit you're talking nonsense and do the hard work.
So you'll just do you're best to get €200+ a week and pretend to go to interviews and wastes the next 40 years.

    Why not improve?
    Why give up?
