Does anybody know does the AIB and Ulster Bank ROI banking apps work in the Beta iOS14?

Can verify for AIB on iPad, also.

I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing proper 3rd party integration, unless I massively missed out on something.

A Spotify integration for Widgets would be great, as I much prefer it over Apple Music, namely because I can use Spotify on my Google Home.

Overall impression is good so far, while it's stuff I by and large experienced on Android many years ago, it's still fantastic to have the extra customization available on iOS.

The check in always worked for me on it. The contract tracing never did.

Judging by some developer posts on Twitter, 3rd party widgets are possible, so that’s good. One for outlook and Spotify would be ideal.

Yup there's WWDC sessions on WidgetKit (new APIs) to allow 3rd party developers to create their own widgets.

I'm not that optimistic about Widgets on iOS they're being sold as being very similar to watchOS complications, therefore they're purely informational, cannot have play/pause/ff/rw button controls (for Spotify or any other music app). The use cases seem quite limited to me right now but I guess we will see when developers can submit iOS 14 apps in September.

Little piece about the exposure notification issue on iOS 14 beta.

Thought that was just me, seems like an odd limitation there.

The underlying architecture of Widgets has stemmed from the APIs used to create complications on the watch, it was a limitation there and limitation all the way up now (iOS/iPadOS/macOS). Bare in mind existing widgets will still function the way they do now until they start targeting iOS 14 as a base SDK at that point they'll need to move over to WidgetKit or kill their Widget entirely.

I can see why they did it this way, and they glossed over it in the keynote/state of the union presentations. Unless they change it by September time there'll be a lot of confused and disappointed customers.

Could someone check if the Sky TV app is working on IOS 14?

I could see widgets for smart home accessories being the biggest losers from Apple restricting the new widgets to read-only functionality. E.g. where you could toggle power plugs and lights on and off this would be no longer available under the new widgets. I wonder if Apple are planning to phase out the previous widget page that lives to the left of the first page of apps.

Probably their way of encouraging smart home accessories to adopt HomeKit, it's still slim pickings out there when trying to find supported accessories. They're either US-only or double the price of Google/Amazon supported ones.

Did anyone else notice that the RTÉ News Nows app is pasting blindly without asking like LinkedIn etc?

Off topic but Ikea smart stuff supports HomeKit. Some really nice devices there on a budget... hive on the other hand :(

I hate having the additional hubs that come along with smart home devices. That's why I've avoided using stuff like Ikea's smart home range. They're great on price though, and they have one of the larger selections. I've mostly stuck to stuff like Lifx bulbs and off-brand smart power strips.

One iOS 14 feature that I'm looking forward to is having the ability to have all smart home toggles from the Home app's Control Centre shortcut in the actual control centre instead of having to tap into the home icon to expand it out. That way it's just a swipe down from the home screen and all your toggles are front and centre. Again this is another reason I think Apple will eventually discontinue the widget screen on previous iOS versions.

The weather widget is still present in the latest beta.

N26, AIB and Revolut all working fine. I’ve yet to test KBC but I’ll report back later if no one else confirms.

The weather widget is still present in the latest beta.

From a snoop around the interwebs, looks like some people are reporting it missing with PB3. For those affected it looks like the fix is "Delete the widget, then open the Weather app. This should add the widget to the pane again."

AppleInsider reported one of the Developer Beta 3 changes as "Weather widgets in iPadOS was removed".

    https://appleinsider.com/articles/20/07/22/all-the-new-features-and-changes-in-ios-14-beta-3

Not sure if that's true or just a manifestation of the issue some people are seeing.

Can’t seem to remove pages from the floating stack. Anyone else have that problem? I can only change the order.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,107 ✭✭✭djdunny

Not sure if it’s a standard feature or a glitch for me. When I edit the home screen, tap on the dots, it brings me to a screen which allows me to tick/untick homescreen pages. Should I be able to move the order of the pages?

My issue is that the page I usually had as my 2nd page is now last and would like to easy arrange the order rather than having to move all the apps individually.

That’s standard. It’s so you can hide walls of apps and folders and just have what you regularly use and then access other apps in the App Library.

Thanks! Yeah the KBC app is the only reason I’m holding off for now.

KBC is working on the current beta. Only got around to testing today as I had to ring them up because I forgot to transfer my account when I wiped my other phone.

Nothing I do (I found a good few threads about the issue with possible fixes) will make the weather widget reappear.

Have you opened the weather app itself? That fixed it for me.

Yep. Uninstalled it and reinstalled it, uninstalled rebooted and reinstalled, uninstalled reinstalled opened and rebooted, and every other combination I can think of. It’s not an option in the list any more.

How are people finding the battery life?

Obviously it's a beta, but I'm certainly seeing a bit more of an impact on my XR.

Installed Pb3 last night, it was quite like so just made sure installed and then put the phone on charge and went to sleep.

Woke up this morning to find out my 11 Pro Max no doesn’t accept wireless charging. 🀦ðŸ¼*♂️

24 hours of use of iOS 14 and I really don’t care about it as an update. The App Library is kinda cool, but after spending years perfecting my own folders of apps, it’s of no real use to me. Widgets, I’ve left them to side and don’t see any real need to land them on the Home Screen taking up space I use for apps I want daily access to. I know everyone has their own use case. This is just my opinion, there’s no big difference between 13 & 14 for Dave.

Is it worth updating to public beta ios14?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,257 ✭✭✭Sonics2k

    What am I missing?

Nothing really, it very much depends on the person. If there's one thing I miss about Android it was that extra touch of customization that was available.

Both the weather and calendar widgets are very helpful for me as they're just quickly available with the information I need.

That really depends. As it's a beta you can expect apps to break now and then, albeit generally not for long. It does also mean that builds can break a few apps

So far the public beta has been smooth enough, occasionally Whattsapp will randomly close, but no information is lost.
