Just wondering should I be looking at replacing a 20 year old oil tank, looks OK but how long do they last. I fill it up every summer and does house insurance cover oil that would be lost do to a spillage from a crack in tank and also the clean up. What ye think.

It should be checked on your annual service. What did your report say about it?

Please follow site and charter rules. "Resistance is futile"

a very warm topic at the moment due to low price of oil

tanks been filled now that haven't for years

I expect this year will see an awful increase in the amount of tanks that need replacing

hairline crack today could end as a split tank tonight

just have to be aware that a oil spill could run to 100k in the wrong area

There probably is 400 Litres in it so don't know how I would manage a change over don't want to do it in middle of winter so might try and aim to run it to empty next summer and get it changed than.

def change it. have seen 2 tanks crack that were both just over 15 years old...luckily both spotted in time and new tanks bought and oil transferred. the sunlight deteriorates the plastic over time.

The cost of a new tank pales into insignificance when compared to the potential cost of a spill. It’s a headache you really don’t want even if your insurance covers it.

My folks just had to replace their tank as the oil delivery man noticed a hair line crack. Fair play to him cause they never would have noticed it.
