Thermostatic shower bar mixer question

Anybody got any insight on these fittings?

I have one installed in my shower a few years now and it is starting to get on my nerves as it starts making a whining/buzzing noise once the temperature reaches a settling point shortly after switching on. I can't remember how long this is going on, it was most likely alwasy there it is just getting intolerable at this stage.

I put it in after a previous one stopped working when the thermostatic cartridge couldin't be adjusted any more and water wouldn't get any hotter.

I only recently noticed however that the thermostatic cartridge is on the left hand side of the new one where as it was on right on the previous one. My hot pipe is on the LHS and the cold is on the RHS as is the usual arrangement AFAIK. Having done some research it seems that they operate on the basis of adding more cold water to regulate the temperature rather than reducing the hot water intake.

Im just curious to know how these valves with the cartridge on the left are supposed to work if the hot pipe is on the left or are they made for setups with opposite hot and cold pipe arrangements.

    Thanks

They're a pain in the hoop. I'm about to replace my second one in 5 years.

    They keep seizing up.

Buy a decent brand. Some come with a 12 years warranty believe it or not. 5 & 7 years isn't uncommon either for a bar mixer warranty

    Have you hard water?
