The suspect was an asylum seeker who went on a rampage after complaining about the hotel meals served to him during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The knifeman, who was from Sudan, had threatened violence against other refugees and complained he was "very hungry" in recent days after being re-housed in the hotel, an activist told the Telegraph.
A hero policeman who was stabbed trying to protect victims from a knifeman who attacked six people at a hotel in Glasgow yesterday is fighting for his life.

David Whyte, 42, raced to the scene of the knife rampage at around 1pm. He is thought to have been the first officer to arrive at the Park Inn Hotel on West George Street - two minutes after the attack began.

Sources said he had had been stabbed repeatedly as he tried to overpower the knifeman and save other victims. Medics described his condition as 'critical but stable' and his family are understood to be by his bedside.
Hope this hero officer makes a full recovery.

6 injured: three were asylum seekers, two were hotel staff and one was a police officer. Two were only teenagers. Very sad. Police said that it is not being treated as terrorism. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-53205396?intlink_from_url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk&link_location=live-reporting-story

One of the residents says he spoke of stabbing people before it happened.

Yes, it sounds like the fella had some issues. Some of the asylum seekers attempted to raise their concerns about him before the incident.

Fellow hotel guests said they had passed on their concerns about the suspect, whose application for voluntary return had been stalled by the coronavirus pandemic, after he began behaving erratically.

At the beginning of the lockdown an estimated 380 refugees and asylum seekers were moved by the private housing provider Mears from their individual accommodation into six hotels in Glasgow city centre.

One man, who gave his name as Siraj, said the alleged attacker told him on Thursday evening that he was considering attacking fellow residents. “He said: ‘Everyone here in the hotel is against me.’” Siraj alerted hotel reception staff to the conversation on Thursday evening. He said this was followed up with him by a Mears representative on Friday morning.

The Guardian understands hotel staff passed on these concerns to Mears on Thursday night, and that a welfare officer for the housing provider spent time talking to the man.

It is also understood the alleged attacker had complained to fellow residents and hotel staff about noise coming from other rooms and disturbing his sleep during the night.

The man shot dead by police during a stabbing attack in Glasgow has been named as Badreddin Abadlla Adam. He was from Sudan.

The 28-year-old's identity is "based on information the deceased provided to the Home Office earlier this year", Police Scotland said.

The Guardian understands hotel staff passed on these concerns to Mears on Thursday night, and that a welfare officer for the housing provider spent time talking to the man.

After the other asylum seekers raised the alarm, sadly the housing provider didn't escalate, or didn't escalate the issue in time. It looks like five of them in the hotel got stabbed as as result.

So he was trying to get out of the country?

Yea it looks like he was trying to get out of the country and had some mental issues. There was a rush to move the aslum seekers to hotels due to their risk to coronavirus back in March.

The Home Office had significant questions to address about how they assessed the vulnerabilities of those placed in the hotels. On Thursday Mears’ chief executive, John Taylor, said asylum seekers were moved into hotels without formally assessing individual vulnerabilities. He insisted, however, that pregnant women, children and those with significant mental health problems were swiftly relocated.
