So pretty much like canceling cancer screening to free resources for Covid?

All lives matter is like complaining you can't go lie in ICU taking up a bed and have as much right to be there as a Covid19 patient.

I don't agree with that analogy. People who say ALM and who aren't having 'a hard time' aren't looking for the same help that someone who is having 'a hard time' is. They're saying race shouldn't matter, just help the people who need help.

One problem with 'Black Lives Matter' is that it's name is exclusionary which is counterintuitive to the notion of unifying people. It's just placing more emphasis on race which supposedly the problem in the first place. If people aimed for equal opportunity, fair treatment etc. across the board without consideration for race then any systemic racial issues would be dealt with by default.

Interesting how white people thousands of miles away are able to tell black people in the US what their issues are and how best to solve them. Imagine the arrogance, apply that to any other issue. Imagine setting up an account with the name above because the idea of black people standing up for themselves offends you so much. Then they say there is no such think as white privilege.

How am I as a working stiff who has to love payday to pay “privileged” compared to a colleague who went to Cambridge and who came from money ??

He’s black and I’m white - yet he has a card to play for any slight against him.

    It’s truly pathetic.

Oh and if you don’t want the opinions of people in Ireland - fine. Post on a US site so!

Your colour has never been an issue for you. Getting a job, traveling, interacting with authorities, renting accomodation or anything. That's what white privilege refers to.

Imagine the arrogance of someone posting about BLM on an Irish site getting uppity because his white knighting on an American issue is not being appreciated even though they are in support of protesting on the very same issue on the proviso that they agree with them. Essentially saying anyone that you are only allowed voice your opinion as long as it's one I like.

But then alludes that if white people, not just in America, don't admit they have some sort of inherited benefit by virtue of their skin colour, their opinion is worthless and should shut up.

If you believe in white privilege, you are judging people on the basis of the colour of their skin and temper your expectations on them because of their race. That is racist by any metric.

You just don't want to admit it.

I am not judging white people here, I am just pointing out a fact.
You seem to be getting upset by anyone acknowledging that there are advantages to being white and that somehow takes away from you. It does not.

How do you know? Presumption based on colour - we used to have a word for that.

    No. I'm not upset.

I'm just baffled how you don't see that telling me that being white is a privilege is inherently racist and dehumanising (we know how you hate that).

And white privilege is far from a fact. It is grouping individuals and deciding that based on their skin colour, what they should believe and how they should act. It's a dangerous, divisive and abhorrent view.

Not at all. Acknowledging it doesn't even mean white people are inherently racist. You seem to think it is all about you.

So tell us about all these hardships you have suffered because you are a white person in Ireland.

    Actually it is about me.

I am white and I am told, by you, that because of this, I have a benefit. Despite you knowing nothing else about me, you have decided that I have a privilege because of my skin colour.

My daughter is a POC. If someone judged her because of that I would be livid.

Judging people on their skin colour is not acceptable, regardless of whether you deem it positive or negative.

    Discrimination can never be positive.

That's a prime example of prejudice and racism.

Why would he? In any other circumstance, you would dismiss it as anecdotal.

Add into that you obviously do not care about any hardships that white people face and are in favour of positive discrimination.

Pretending something doesn't exist doesn't make it go away.
You are seriously arguing that there is no benefit to being white?

Nope white privilege is not about hardships white people suffer.
It is simply that a white persons skin colour is not one of the issues that they have.

It's a little unfair of you to expect us to follow your train of thought when you can't seem to keep up with it either.

I'm not arguing. I'm stating that I do not believe there is any benefit that I have for being the colour I am.

As you seem to socialise around blackrock and Dalkey I'm going to hazard a guess that you are fairly well off and privileged. Do you suffer from white guilt ? A friend of mine and his girlfriend are paying 1500 euro a month to rent a two bed apartment , both are up at 6 o clock , droping off their 2 young kids to their nanny's , while the both off them go off working and don't get back till 6 that evening . Across the road theirs multiple families of new Irish living in 3 bed semis, all have 4 or 5 kids , houses and kids paid for by the state. Ive another friend that lives in portlaoise and travels to Dublin everyday because he couldn't afford a house up here , while thousands of new Irish got given new houses in and around Dublin . White privilege my arse.

You are purposely misrepresenting what I have called white privilege.
Made it very clear multiple times.

You made it clear that you believe that all white people do not have anything negative happen to them because of their skin colour.

    Is that right?

    Or were you being sarcastic?

If you turned black tomorrow would the state give you a "free house"?
    No they would not.

I find it hard to wrap my head accusing people of white privilege in Ireland , taking in that overwhelming majority of people are white. I wonder i you flew into africa , would I go around accusing the locals of black privilege??

    Bad things happen to everyone.
The point is that our skin colour is not the source of any of our problems.
Really maybe familiarise yourself with what is being discussed think I have made the point enough times.

    No they would not.

There not enough houses to go around now , although it worked quite well in the past .

It's not an accusation. Why do you think pointing it out is a slur on white people.

    It is just a fact.

Erm... That's exactly what I said your point was.

You believe that nothing no white person ever has any issues or problems that arise because of their skin colour.

That's absolutely unprovable, untrue and ridiculous to even suggest.

I'd really like you to stop purporting this to be a fact.

It certainly isn't. It is your opinion. Not in any way factual.

It is a widely held opinion.
Easily provable as well, by research and statistics.
But if you don't believe it that's fine.
