I'm slightly more optimistic that we have the people who are that bit more proactive in government now that maybe things can improve. Leo and Harris were all reactive, not proactive at all.

I can't think of anything more frustrating than seeing a potential risk of reimporting this for no good reason other than being unwilling to take preventative action.

Yep. First it was people having house parties and meeting up in the park. No spike. Then it was the demonstrations across the country for BLM. No spike.

Will will see an increase in cases, especially as foreign travel picks up. But once cases stay below 30 a day we can manage it.

We're not going to get to zero cases a day unless we completely shut off the country from the outside world.

The 15,000 quoted capacity included the German lab. I don't believe we've sent anything there in a while. Its important to keep all testing in Ireland to keep turnaround times as quick as possible.

Hospital labs are working at their own individual capacity. Trying to get as many batches of samples processed every 24 hours.

Our own Micro dept now have 2 people on call at night instead of one, and more on weekends. That means they're on call more often and there will be less people in during the day to process routine work that is always increasing.

I work in a hospital lab. But yes. People forget that routine work still continues. Our workload increases about 6% each year.

There's going to be spikes, we've already seen it in Sligo and Leitrim, get them under control quickly.

Testing & tracing, social distancing, lack of large gatherings, improved hand hygiene, mask wearing, people avoiding non essential travel and gatherings, reduced international travel, working from home and general public awareness and compliance with public advice are all going to help to reduce transmission should there be additional case growth.

I would be very hopeful that we'll see increased case numbers over the coming weeks and months but it won't be at the level we saw in March and April. The free for all that went on when this whole craic started is not there this time and we are far more prepared.

We are in a fantastic position with regard to this damn virus, it would actually be difficult to get infected in Ireland now.

However letting people from the USA or Brazil in with this joke of 2 weeks 'self isolation', which is ignored by half of those who fill out the yellow form at the airport, is just looking for trouble.

There was dithering and procrastination about travel at the beginning of the pandemic here, which allowed the virus to spread from Italy, UK etc. and we paid very dearly for that lack of urgency.

Imagine trying to contact trace a 2 week journey by an asymptomatic superspreader, who ignored 'self isolation', along The Wild Atlantic Way !

Why wait until July 20th for the 'green list'... the virus will not wait.

Have we learned nothing ?

Why are we not doing like other countries - you wanna come here you either have a negative test cert (probably end up on ebay for sale) or you pay for your test and wait to enter, any costs are borne by yourself

Yeah read about that in the last few days, they were trying to figure out if it was in the barracks or if the 2 soldiers picked it up in Dublin before travelling to the barracks but a few soldiers had been put into isolation
