That was an interesting Trump -supporting boat parade on a Texas lake at the weekend. It appears that the actions of a few well-heeled MAGAs in big boats went fast enough in choppy waters to sink five (5) smaller boats laden with less well-heeled MAGAs by creating a large enough wake to swamp their 'fellow-travellers'.

Soooo many metaphors for Trumpist "I'm alright Jack, and **** you in your ****ty little bathtub! " attitudes that are reflected in Trumpland every day... I don't know where to start!

President Donald Trump took home $750,000 worth of art from the home of the US ambassador to France during the 2018 visit where he canceled a journey to visit American World War I dead

What's even better about that story is that when he got them back to Washington is turned out they were all fakes.

Is it any surprise Trump wanted them.

I've been on that Lake many times - Usually very calm (it's a semi-artificial lake formed from a dam on the Colorado river) but you can get large wakes from bigger boats so if there were a load of them out and they were all hooning back and forth it would have been really really choppy for the sub 15/16 foot range of boats.

Aside from whoever turned up for this event specifically , it would be really really busy anyway , hundreds of boats and Jet-skis out there anyway.

There's even a BBQ Boat there with a full BBS pit on board where you can just pull up alongside and get food straight off the grill.

America has basically lost the last 3 of the last 4 wars they've been involved in. Korea, Vietnam and Iraq. Somalia under Clinton was a spectacular failure too.

No soldiers, no wars. Simplistic but true.

I've no issue with Trump dodging the draft or whatever way he did it. Smart move. He does appear to be very anti war which is good.

There are loads of them begging on the streets. San Francisco is like a zombie army apocalypse. Homeless veterans with only the shirt on their backs lying face down on the concrete, piss all over them, drunk and high, filthy, getting moved on by the police etc. Awful stuff.

Also saw a lot of "official" beggars in Nashville. ie they have a military card that basically allows them to beg.

Soldiers need to take responsibility, as do their parents.

So would you class soldiers who die as "losers" or "suckers?

WW1 and WW2 soldiers? What about the Irish peacekeeping forces that have died? Are they also "losers" and "suckers"?

Everyone needs to remember that the soldiers in the cemetery that Trump refused to visit died in the world wars, Men who went to fight against the Nazis, not gung ho wannabe heroes but average men (teachers, factory workers, etc) who went off to fight against the Nazi regime, that's the people he is slagging off as "losers" and "suckers"!

Smart from Trump. Words are fine. Scare the bejesus out of them with words. Fairly historical stuff there.

So scared they are still a nuclear nation and recently blew up the joint liason building as a nice fùck you to the world.

I see hash tags like #Dumbkirk and #Poseiden4Biden are trending as the notion of a false "Drain the Swamp" narrative is overtaken by an actual Swamping event..

Anyway, thankfully nobody died and another delicious irony was donated by Trump land.

I would class soldiers in military graveyards as losers. They have lost their lives, that’s pretty much the definition of it.

You can rate the nobility of their death all you want, and talk about how they have made a great sacrifice, but they are still dead, was anything served by dying in Vietnam? Iraq, Afghanistan etc etc?

Dodging a draft that would send you to the front lines of a war in another country sounds like the shrewd move to me, call me a coward all you like but il be alive as hell with all my limbs at the end of it.

Irish peacekeeping soldiers are a different kettle of fish, they are on More of a humanitarian mission than a full on conflict that they opt into For very good pay, but you wouldn’t see me doing that either.

If you really have the guts to stand up to this attitude, I would suggest to repeat it in an establishment frequented by soldiers.
Otherwise it's just the unfortunate soundings of someone who seems to desperately want attention by being "edgy" online.

Jeez! The standard of distraction posts have really gone down the toilet here in recent pages! But then there always are selfish sociopaths who would willingly allow everyone else to sacrifice lives to keep their sorry bag of bones alive and free!

If those men had not fought Hitler's evil in the 1940s, the 6 million who were murdered in his death camps would have been joined by many, many millions more.

Sometimes humans need to fight the evil that emerges in other humans to ensure the scumbags and sociopaths don't dominate the human race...

As I see it, the thing about Trump's attitude to the U.S military and service in it is that he sees there's no profit in joining such a body if it means one's life and limb is a t risk meaning one would never get to enjoy the profits of such a life, as distinct from that of being a hotelier with absolutely no such risks. This applies to what he reportedly said about cutting off his own children from inclusion amongst the beneficiaries in his will if they opted to serve in the U.S military, even reserves at home in cushy billets. I see Trump as some-one who took the message in Donovan's "Universal Soldier" to heart. Edit: I think Donovan meant the soldiers should have a large degree of discernment in whom they vote into office.

As for the Irish Mil Pers who serve with the UN, it's not solely about the good pay, it's about the experience of serving alongside people of all nationalities [incl the actual locals] that one would not otherwise meet. On that issue, Gardai and other Irish people [field service] also serve with the UN abroad at admin & field service level. However including such Irish U.N servers is distracting attention from the person at the centre of the thread DJ Trump.

On the topic of Trump campaign supporting, it's currently being reported by WaPo that Mr de Joy, the U.S PMG, has reimbursed former employees for financial contributions they made to the campaign. I suppose it's perfectly legal to do so while maintaining a line about there being a distance between Mr de Joy doing the PMG job and facilitating the Trump campaign's success. I am firewalled from WaPo and relied on MSN for the WaPo report.

UPDATE. According to a CNN report, Trump has said that if it's proven that de Joy repaid workers for funding his campaign, he would support Mr de Joy being removed as PMG. I'll wait until I see and hear Trump say that on live TV before I'm assured he/it is genuine.

A quote I always remember: "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". Thankfully there were plenty of good men around to fight Nazism while the lawrencesummers of this world cowered in the shadows.

Was listening to Richard Schiff this evening. He's campaigning for Biden. He tells the one quote from Trump that really stuck with him was 'I love the uneducated.'

Martin Niemoller spent over 7 years in Nazi Concentration camps and had this to say about the need to stand up to evil:

"First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me... "

Think about that when you think of brave men of WWII who died fighting to free Europe from Naziism... And think about how a modern day US President could cry off from a memorial service for those men, who he called 'losers' because he didn't want to get his ridiculous Orange combover wet! And then think about someone coming on here admiring him for it!

You can certainly make an argument that soldiers in certain wars were victims - of propaganda, or in the case of the draft for Vietnam, of imperialism and, to this day, there's a fundamentally predatory nature to the flag waving, fascistic rhetoric around the military in the US, and how embedded it is in every facet of US society, resulting in thousands dying because of some mixture of greed and stupidity from the ruling class in the US (leaving aside the hundreds of thousands of deaths inflicted on the people in the countries that were invaded), but trying to argue those people are losers requires some extremely tortured logic that has to travel through several layers of victim-blaming, myopia and smugness.

    I’m not.
The idea of joining a military and putting your life needlessly in danger or putting yourself in a situation where you have to take someone’s else life strikes me as a pretty stupid thing to do.

And do you hold the regular soldiers who wore the Nazi uniform in such high regard also?

First they came for the socialists

    Economy stupid.

Ha ha so I’m a sociopath because I think joining an army and putting yourself in the firing line is a bad idea!!! Good man.

Of all the wars that the US was involved in the fight against Nazi Germany was necessary and fought for the right reasons, that can’t be said about most of the other use of their military.

Imagine being one of the 37000 casualties in Iraq. How dumb must you be to be killed or wounded in Iraq in the name of what? Or the 211000 casualties from the Vietnam war.

Excuse me if I don’t see the attraction Of losing a few limbs or getting my head blown off because a few politicians are actual sociopaths.

It says more about America than anything else that he became president. I’ve always said the good people of America have got the leader they deserve.

It well and truly could not happen in any other country in the world.

I believe the problem with Trumps dodging of the draft is that he made light of his dodging venereal diseases at the time as his own personal vietnam. Also after becoming president he encouraged people to join the military. Hypocritical to say the least. I have no issue with people dodging conscription, as long as they aren't two faced about it like Trump.

You may not always agree with someone but can at least respect them if they have the courage of their convictions, but nobody likes a coward no. Especially a sneering, fake tough guy coward.

Thankfully braver men than you walked forward and fought against the Nazi war machine, The freedom you have today is because they fought and died but this is the issue with the youth of today, no respect.

I find it worse that he slated athletes for kneeling during the anthem claiming they were being disrespectful to the military, then it turns out he has said this about dead American soldiers!
