Talk about misreading the room and screwing the pooch!

Whomever in Walter Reed ends up carrying the can for "authorising" Trump's drive around has my sympathy.
Telling the giant man-baby who is also legally your CiC that they are in isolation and cannot risk the the health of multiple SS and staffers to boost his personality cult that he can't go out?

He is merely confirming the opportunity for the Dems to highlight his recklessness and wanton stupidity and disregard of professional and expert advice.

Already condemned by consulting physician as 'political theatre' and 'insanity'

The occupants of that car are gonna be watched like hawks, and if they start turning up positive the democrats can go to town on him.

When do Pence and congress step in here? Theres been some wild things during this presidency but that drive by takes the biscuit. Trump is on hard medication - invoke the 25th amendment now!

Is that the same doc that lied when he was giving info to the press because he wanted to keep with the positive vibes that Trump wanted to send out?

He must be feeling pretty disgusted with himself. All those years of building up his reputation thrown away in a sec just to play along with Trump.

TBF, whilst it is clearly reckless. if anything it shows that Trump is perfectly sane and functioning exactly as we would have expected.

There is absolutely no chance of the 25th ever being invoked in this era; arguably it was created as a reaction to the JFK assassination where there was no chain of command for a physically afflicted President. Modern American politics are so far gone the notion of compromise and unity is way, way off in the rear mirror.

Trump would have to be full-blown King George III levels of insanity before the GOP would even consider invoking that amendment. And even then, the Susan Collins of the world would simply declare being "troubled" before rejecting the proposition anyway.

There is literally nothing that could ever make the Republicans invoke that. Why would the Party of Trump go against Trump?

Surely the military or whatever branch of something is in charge of the SS have a duty to not allow their people to be put in harms way like that.

There is a difference between throwing yourself in the way of an incoming bullet aimed for the president, and the president being the one holding the deadly weapon and aiming it at you. Whoever the sane person is incharge should be withdrawing their people and saying to Trump that we'll keep you safe from bullets, but you don't fupping move until a sane doctor says so, and we don't mean the one wearing the coat saying "presidents doctor" on it.

That runaround in the car last night strikes me, yet again, as good toddler tantrum management.
    - The docs want Trump to stay in hospital;
    - Trump is having a tantrum about being seen to be weak, wanting to go back to the WH, messing up his O2 levels in the process
    - The WH staff say "we're used to this - let him think he's a Big Man"
    - Call up the Secret Service and ask for a few lads that have already been infected to share the car with him
    - The WH staff go back to Trump and say "it won't be a campaign rally, but let's see if we can persuade the docs to let you go for a drive and wave at your fans"
    - The docs say "well, if you promise to be good and wear your mask, we'll give you the OK."

    Job done. Toddler calmed down.

It's hard to justify, but I think there's probably more of a gulf now between Trump and the GOP than ever before. The GOP knows that there's a "right way" to spin this for political advantage, but Trump has such a poor understanding of how politics really works, that he just won't play along. That would partially explain the CoS's on-off-on-the record comments on Saturday, and - maybe - the almost-presidential videos.

Trump's reckless disregard for the lives and health of others is horrifying, but not the least bit surprising. I've highlighted parts of the tweet from Dr. James Phillips, who is chief of disaster medicine at George Washington University and an attending physician at Walter Reed Medical Center.

"That Presidential SUV is not only bulletproof, but hermetically sealed against chemical attack. The risk of COVID19 transmission inside is as high as it gets outside of medical procedures. The irresponsibility is astounding. My thoughts are with the Secret Service forced to play."

Treasury Dept [Steve Mnuchin] is/was the Secret Service head office but it might be the new union of federal security agencies running it now. Another angle now is the "what if" of other U.S patients in Trumps situation telling their doctors I'm heading out for a drive and there's nothing you can do about it, cos the president can do it while infected by Covid-19. Trump shot all the medics treating those infected everywhere in the U.S with his antics yesterday. The Drug Co heads of section which supplied the drug cocktail were probably looking aghast at the TV screens.

News dropping now [which can be mod-deleted] RTE's reporter in the U.S was telling Claire Byrne that all the GOP senate judiciary committee had a lively dinner meet together a few days ago and the three Covid-19 infected members were there after they caught the infection. That makes for a perfect cross-contamination medical scenario.

    He’s currently rage tweeting on twitter at the moment;

Interesting info here about the mixture of drugs Trump is on that could lead to manic episodes - What genius is able to differentiate between normal Trump and manic Trumpy?

    Wow!

Obviously been plenty of unhinged tweets from him previously, but this current series is mad. Twitter may need to ban capital letters from being used so that there is some left for the rest of us.

At least one word in each tweet I think we can all agree on though, VOTE!

The stock markets have reopened while he's in hospital. That's the only thing he's concerned about right now.

Good Lord - Just looked at the tweets , that's just mental..

Most of them are disconnected from the truth massively.

"BIGGEST TAX CUT EVER, AND ANOTHER ONE COMING. VOTE!" - Really?? 57% of Americans have less money after his last tax cut..

"SPACE FORCE. VOTE!" - Where do you even start with that one?

    And my personal favourtites..

    "BETTER & CHEAPER HEALTHCARE. VOTE!"
    "PROTECT PREEXISTING CONDITIONS. VOTE!"

From the party heading to the Supreme court to remove cover for Pre-existing conditions and who have been saying for 10 years+ that their "new and improved" Health-care plan will be announced any day now..

How would the character and direction of Trump's presidency change if he won another 4 years in office, do ye think?

I still can’t believe this guy has authority of the nuclear football tbh.

19 tweets in half an hour, and his capslock seems to be stuck.

The first year would be consumed with hunting down and destroying anyone that spoke against him, ever.

The final 3 would be him changing as many laws as possible to allow him to avoid prosecution and to transfer more money and power to him.

Greatly increase his grafting, trying to get pardons and legal exceptions setup for everyone in the government basically.

The big question is seeing how narcissistic Trump is how is he going to survive outside the constant limelight of standing in arenas and get adoration thrown at him? Sure he can set up a TV station and have his own show etc. but that will be no where near compared to what he gets today.

Along with the above he would also spend four years wearing down the public to come around to his way of thinking about him being granted (not even running for) a third term in office.

I think if he loses he will go to one extreme or the other.

He will either be so utterly broken and ashamed of the loss that he pulls a Howard Hughes and just disappears completely - Other than a litany of court appearances of course.

OR - He goes completely the other way and becomes the feral love child of Alex Jones and Russ Limbaugh , fully embraces QAnon and spends his days ranting and foaming at the mouth across the right wing media about how he was robbed. Other than a litany of court appearances of course.

I'd be more inclined to expect that latter rather than the former to be honest.

Whats the difference between a cold and a flu? I say if you fail the 50 euro test, you have a cold. The 50 euro test is you're in bed feeling rotten and imagine there is a 50 euro note on your front step. If you have the energy or inclination to go and get it, you don't have the flu. If instead you just want to roll over and sleep, it's the flu.

Despite being hospitalised, oh great one went for a drive in an SUV.

I still call BS on his diagnosis.

Consult Idi Amin's last 4 years in office.

Interesting article on this, especially with McConnell pushing for a two week recess at the Senate - McConnell moves to protect vulnerable Republicans on health care after Schumer's rare effort to force vote.

The more salient question, however, is what do Republicans mean when they say they would maintain the protections for pre-existing conditions should the Supreme Court toss out the ACA? I'd argue one can look no further than the American Health Care Act, the Republican backed alternative from 2017 to get a view on this. Somewhat unsurprisingly, the truth isn't as straight-forward as it's been made out to be - here's a piece on Politifact which breaks down the claims made as well as comments from the American Medical Association and a joint group which includes the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association.

That is most reasonable people though. This is someone whose ego and self-centredness will push him to do things that most people would not consider. It seems that the illness is not a straight line progression thing, and the medications he is on could enable and exaggerate his actions. You can see from his manic series of tweets earlier that he is absolutely desperate to get out and campaigning, it can't be doing his blood pressure any good at all. Trying to be his physician must be a nightmare.

His first year and a half was a mess because he and his team didnt have a clue what they were doing. The year and a half after that there were still enough adults present to rein back his worst instincts. Its only the last 8 months that can be used as a guide to what another 4 years would be like, and even then you need to realise he will feel vindicated having won the election and will be even less likely to listen to anyone.

I can see government employees that he sees as not being 100% loyal will be gotten rid of, to be replaced with people of the calibre of Navarro and Barr. He will get to work setting up his kids and lackeys to continue his dynasty, making Trumpism an integrated part of the republican party. His grift and corruption will be fully let off the leash. His divisivness will further increase the gulf between his supporters and everyone else.

Being his nurse must be worse. Wondering if any minute now the most powerful person on the planet is going to grab you by the pu**y.
