I've just seen a video where a black mother and daughter were threatening and making racist comments against a white couple. The man of the couple escorted his wife into the car, and attempted to reverse out of the parking space to drive away. The mother of the black couple ran to jump behind the car to prevent it from leaving. The white woman then got out of the car and pulled a gun and demanded the black woman move away.

The American media is saying things like "White racist tries to run over black woman and pulls gun on her" The couple have been charged and the man has lost his job. I can only see the couple as the victims in this scenario, I know the woman pulled a gun but she had been threatened and then prevented from leaving, that seems like reasonable force to me.

I'm scared that events like this might come to Ireland. I already feel that sometimes things are decided to be racist because a black person doesn't like it whether it actually is racist or not. If the black person doesn't win in every situation then it's labelled as racist. The point isn't the incident, the point is it seems like there is a race war brewing and a lot of people are on the side of "black people can't be racist".

There is nothing the man could have done better, and he lost his job because a black person decided to get angry and he was white. I don't want to live in a world like that. It's not fully here yet but it feels like it's coming.

I hate racism, I wish it could be ended but I'm also begining to hate and fear people who use the race card to oppress and get away with things.

    Do you live in America?

99% of the world is good..

Well maybe a bit less but you get the idea.

It’s easy to get sucked in and forget that though..

Watch less news, spend less time on social media, go out and enjoy nature and spend time with good friends.

The more you ignore all this bull**** the happier you will be.

I saw the same video and it's shocking.

The white couples daughter accidentally bumped into the black woman's child and the black people completely over reacted.

    It's getting very scary

Haven't seen the video and no real interest in watching it tbh but just a general point around the thread title.

Kinda - yeah. It grates on me that so many people sort of want to put people in a box whether it be by gender/sexual orientation/race etc.

My philosophy is that none of those things alone define who we are.

Also the shutdown of debate. Again for so many people it's all-or-nothing, black-or-white (unfortunate phraseology but you get the gist).
The nuance in the issue gets lost.

Yeah completely normal reaction to cock the gun and point it at someone during an argument.

Even in America you can't do that, hence the charge

This is another element that worries me. If you question the group you get shouted over until you stop. If you ask "Is this actually racist" suddenly you're a racist too. It's like burning witches, you have to agree that the accused is a witch, otherwise you're going to be the next witch.

It was a bit more than an argument. What was the other possibility, keep driving and run over the black woman? The situation didn't go ideally, but those people were scared, and trying to get away. If you threatened me and tried to stop me leaving and I had a gun I'd probably draw it.

The the husband was charged and lost his job too, what should have have done differently, controlled his wife like it's the 50s?

It's genius from the radical left, push your ideas and anyone who opposes it is blacklisted as an ultra fascist.

He had his gun out too according to the police, they backed up and she smacked the car as you can see in the video. She jumped out waving a gun like a manic, she also has history of being a bit of a pain in the arse to shop workers etc.

Deserves everything she gets, the black family are idiots too but nothing a normal human couldn't handle.

From what I read he had a gun too, rather than had it out too, could be wrong though.

I think that's how I'd react too. I can't handle stress like that, if I was in that situation I'd panic and pull a gun.

I guess the details aren't that relevant. What's more worrying is the spin by the media and not being allowed to question what happened. If you don't side with the black people you're racist is most of the native on twitter, even from some Irish people.

Situations like this happen here too. Without the guns.

It's the identity politics that terrifies me, people are no more than the box they fit into, and if you're not in one of the chosen boxes you have to apologise for it.

I'm not saying the video isn't messed up, but it's a hell of a reach to think that it's indicitave of American or Global society going in a particular direction. It's one video, one situation.

Look at all the hundreds of thousands of videos about total lunatics on the road. People running red lights in busy junctions and slamming into oncoming traffic. People pulling guns out to signify that they've got the right of way. Dumper trucks drivig with their back up, crashing into bridges. They're all over FB, YouTube and the internet as a whole. But how often do you see things like this actually happening? Are you scared of driving because of the madness you see in these videos?

A video and a story like this makes the news/becomes viral because it's rare. Very rare. Even if you could cite a thousand of such videos, it's still rare.

If you want to see where society is headed, sensationalist videos on the intenet isn't the place to look.

Where are the protests??? The global outrage??

Oh they were killed by gangsters, balls! f it was cops or a white person there would be a story to get outraged to.

    Everything is bull**** these days.

It’s scary when Marxist organizations like BLM are getting such attention. It’s also scary that so many people want to defund the police.

So it's yourself or guns that you should be scared of not "the society". Without their guns it would be a bog standard "what's your problem" chipper argument, happens here everyday only no one is at risk of getting shot.

I've seen it starting in colleges. Not being a feminist makes you a Nazi. Advocating for equal rights for men where they don't have it makes you a Nazi. It's not even directly about race I'm concerned. It's the movement of join the group or get destroyed by the group that is gathering steam.

Yeah the woman completely over reacted but when you watch the whole thing, she was provoked to that point. The way it was first portrayed was crazy racist woman pointing a gun at the black family just because they were black, because the video had been editing to seem like that. This is what led to the mob calling for her to lose her job etc. It left out the parts where the family were calling her names, preventing her from leaving and threatening to beat her up before jumping behind the reversing car.

Apparently the husband has been sacked and all he did was try to leave the situation. Its worrying that people can be manipulated like that and most dont even bother to look further into things before joining the outrage train.

Yes. I'm going to stop replying to anything about the video, it just provoked my thoughts. What I really intended the discussion to be about was the rise of the hive mind and identity politics and how being white means you are in the wrong by default in any situation where someone non-white is involved.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,130 ✭✭✭Rodin

Things no longer considered on their merits.

Always through some kind of filter.

Rational thought and reason is disappearing.

It's mob rule with pitchforks and lit torches. Be having people proclaimed as witches next

She is in the wrong because she pulled a gun on someone she had a spat with. Here in Ireland the equivalent would be to pull a knife, would you still call her a victim?

No it wouldn't. That state has conceal carry laws that permits them to carry guns and use them against a perceived threat of violence or damage to your property.

It's up to the courts to decide whether this was fair use but they definitely have grounds for brandishing the gun.

We had a farmer here who shot a man dead for tormenting him on his property which the courts ruled in favor of the farmer.

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,583 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

The abuse the white couple got was unreal, being shouted at and then blocking them when they tried to leave.

Pulling out the gun was a bit extreme all right and now she is all over the internet, another hollow victory for BLM.

How ironic black people go on about how they hate the police and then in the video the first thing they say is ring for them.
